This is my first monthly favourites post for a long time but I was having a think recently about what I wanted my blog to look like this year and one of the first things that came to mind was that I missed how blogging used to be.
As much as I know that life changes and things move on, I did want to bring back a few of the things I used to do on here so I thought I’d start by bringing my monthly favourites posts back for 2021!
January 2021 / Monthly Favourites
Film/TV
I used to struggle to share something for this category because I hardly watch any TV as I’d much rather be reading a book or a magazine or doing something productive with my time – not necessarily a good thing as I miss out on all the shows you guys love. This month, for example, I genuinely don’t think I’ve sat down to watch anything at all on TV but I did discover Say Yes to the Dress on YouTube which I love for some reason so I pop that on my iPad when I have a bath or when I’m trying to chill out.
I do want to try and get better at downtime though so that’s one of my goals this year.
Books
OK, don’t judge me for this one! This month, I’ve read all three books in the Fifty Shades of Grey series and loved them all. I’ve read them before but I thought I’d read them again this month as I just wanted something that I didn’t need to think about and that I knew I could just get right into.
Music
I’ve got a Google Nest in my bedroom and I LOVE it! It plays nature sounds when I got to sleep, wakes me up on a morning and gives me attitude when I snooze more than once on a morning after my alarm but more than anything, I love it as I just tell it to play whatever I’m in the mood to listen to. I’ve got some cheesy Steps on right now as I’m writing this post as I’m shattered and needed something upbeat to keep me awake.
Beauty
Is anyone even wearing make-up at the moment? I’ve never worn very much anyway as a rule but I do have a couple of absolute favourites that I’d hate to be without. The main one at the moment is my mascara which is helping to disguise the fact that my eyelashes are practically see-through thanks to the fact that I can’t get my lashes tinted while all the beauty salons are closed.
I struggle with Mascara and always have because, no matter what I do, I always have smudges under my eyes within an hour but this one genuinely does stay put all day! It’s the DIOR Diorshow Iconic Waterproof Overcurl Mascara and right now, it’s pretty much the only make-up that I wear.
Honestly, it goes on lovely and stays put all day which is exactly what I need and justifies the higher than average price to me. I justify the expense by thinking about how long it lasts anywhere between 3 and 6 months depending on how often I use it.
Blog Post
One of my favourite posts this month was a post about my homemade scouring powder for a couple of reasons.
I wanted to get back to doing more of my DIYs because it’s something I really enjoy and this was my first one this year. I loved the process of making, testing and more than anything – taking the photos to share the finished product. I felt super inspired after this post which is why it’s my favourite post of the month!
Photo
I used to share my favourite photo of the month in these posts but this month, I have six favourite photos to share with you. It’s my collection of wing shot photos that I’ve printed out, framed and labelled with my label maker.
I shared more about making them here and about my dramas putting them up on the wall here if you want to have a read. 😂
