I’ve consciously tried to slow life down for us all this week after the slightly frantic pace of the last few weeks because it’s become more and more obvious just how tired the kids are right now – one night they both came in from school and one went for a lie down while the other fell asleep on the settee!
It’s only to be expected I guess as we’ve been doing so much with all of the end of term things going on and thinking about it, it seems worse than the last few years as they’re in different schools now so we have two lots of everything to go to.
I almost booked a cheeky week away to Butlins on Friday night as they had some great deals on last minute bookings and we have a rare week where we’re all off this week so I thought it would be ideal. I was just about to book when I remembered that Miss Frugal is booked in at the hospital on Wednesday to get her teeth out. Even if I’d spoken to them to re-arrange, she then has another appointment the week after to get her braces fitted so that would have needed moving too! In the end we decided that it wasn’t really the right thing to do for this coming week but that left us with two disappointed children who’d been excited at the thought of going to Butlins. We made it up to them (almost) by taking them out to tea to cheer them up and letting them choose any pudding they wanted afterwards!
Pudding always helps….
We actually have another week off together in August though so I’ll see what I can do then for a quick break away and I’ll be more sensible next time – I won’t tell them until it’s booked!
The only other interesting thing that happened this week was that Master Frugal got his ear pierced. This was a big thing for me as I really didn’t want him to get it done but he’s been asking since he was 8 and last Summer Holidays I said I thought he was too young but that we’d talk about it this year.
As tempted as I was to say no again this year, I decided (after some advice from some very wise ladies) that even if I wasn’t keen it wasn’t the end of the world to let him get it done. He paid for it with his own money and actually it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would although I’m still not a fan!
When he was getting it done, he was understandably a bit nervous and he automatically reached out his hand for his big sister who took it without hesitation and allowed him to grip on to her while he waited. This is quite possible one of my favourite photos of the two of them together that I’ve ever taken….
I hope you all have an amazing first week of the holidays and I’ll see you all next week for another catch up!
I’d love to hear about your week. Why don’t you link you with My Week too?
