These days there’s product upon product stacked on the supermarket shelves promising to give make your home sparkle and shine, but do you really need them?
I definitely don’t think you do although there are a few that I buy – Domestos bleach and Fairy Liquid are the two main ones that I can think of. Domestos because my Mam always used to say that the only bleach she would buy was Domestos and it’s in my head now even though I know you can probably get cheaper bleach that’s just as effective. I have tried a couple of times but always gone back to Domestos.

Fairy Liquid (the original kind) is my concession to Mr Frugal because this is something I know I can get cheaper for something that will be just as effective but he’s the pot washer so I’m OK with him putting his foot down there!
I also occasionally buy Dettol wipes because I find that when the kids are helping me with cleaning, they do a better job when they can just wipe and pop it in the bin. The alternative of my homemade spray and cloth can end up a bit wet and messy and I’m determined that they WILL do a good job so I don’t have to nag at them to re-do!
The rest of my cleaning kit is a lot more frugal you’ll be pleased to know!
I have my homemade cleaning spray that I’ve shared with you in the past which I love for the way that it makes my house smell amazing as I clean!
I have my streak-free window spray which is great for the windows and the mirrors around the house and again leaves a lovely smell when I use it!
**Top Tip** if you’re making both sprays then it’s a good idea to use the same essential oil so they don’t clash when you have a big clean.
I also make homemade febreze made Febreze which I use in between cleans to refresh the living room mainly – it’s great for spraying on the curtains, rug and even on the settee and chair. I always get compliments on how nice the house smells when I spray with that.
I have a stash of microfibre cloths like these ones on Amazon but you don’t need to spend that much as you can buy them cheaper in the pound shop of the supermarket – that’s my affiliate link just in case you do decide to splash out though! 😉 I have about 7 or 8 of these cloths and love to use a couple to clean and a couple to dry straight after to reduce streaks. When I’m done, I just throw them in the wash and they come out good as new time after time.
The last three things in my frugal cleaning kit are lemons (when I have them in or when I see them on offer), white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.
And finally, if you want your room to smell nice after you’ve cleaned it – try my lovely room spray.
