As a parent, I want my children to grow up knowing that violence in any form is not a solution to anything.I try to teach them that if someone hurts them, it doesn't make it acceptable to hurt them back - they should be the better person and walk away. If that doesn't work, they should tell a grown up.I know that's much easier said than done when you're nine and seven and it doesn't always happen that way but it's the way I expect them to behave. So can you imagine how annoyed I was at the local soft play centre the other day when a little boy kept throwing things at Master Frugal. … [Read more...]

Get Organised – the very busy week edition….
We're having one of those weeks this week where we don't have a spare minute but I'm determined to keep on top of the housework and everything else that I need to do so I'm still going to do this week's Get Organised post - even though I cheated a little bit and got Master Frugal to write up the menu plan.TuesdayParents night for Miss Frugal Football for Master Frugal General tidy up ready for tomorrow as I've got some friends coming. round for tea. Convenience gone mad….
I couldn't help but laugh when I went to Tesco tonight and saw their new 'Easy Home Bake' range. The range consists of ready mixed ingredients for chocolate brownies, Victoria sponge cake and gingerbread among other things. They're like packet mixes for posh people! The Victoria sponge mix costs £3.50 which seems like a massive amount to me for a bit of flour, sugar and butter and a couple of eggs. Miss Frugal can whip up a Victoria sponge on her own and from memory in no time at all and it must cost less than a pound to make!I'm guessing that there is a market for these … [Read more...]
Snow Flavoured Ice Cream (That’s ice cream made out of actual snow)….
I'm so sick of this snow but I have to admit that there's something very magical about if from a kids point of view, especially at this time of year. They never seem to tire of playing in it and I've never made so much hot chocolate in my life!Seeing as we're stuck in the house today, we decided to have a Snow day and do lots of snow related things (I know, we live a very exciting life don't we?). We started the day snuggled up on the settee with our quilts watching Snow Buddies which is actually quite good for a film starring five talking dogs and then, after a quick Google for other … [Read more...]

The one with the Brain Scan….
Yesterday was brain scan day for Miss Frugal. Apart from letting her know what to expect, we'd tried not to talk about the scan too much beforehand as we didn't want to make it into a big thing which we thought would have made her more nervous than she was. Our plan worked to a certain extent as she didn't seem overly concerned about it - until we picked her up from school early yesterday to go to the hospital that is. She was very quiet on the journey there and had a scared look on her face (you know the one, wide eyes, sad mouth) that no amount of cuddling and holding hands would get rid … [Read more...]
