This week's meal plan is super-frugal, or at least it is to us.I'm not going to lie, this last month or so has been ridiculous for unexpected expenses so we're really trying hard to cut our costs in any way possible this month and one way we're doing that is with our meal plans.I worked out this week's meal plan, as you always should, based on what we had in to use up and I didn't add in any meals that we didn't have at least one ingredient in the house already. I thought this week, I'd share the logic in why I chose the meals I did by telling you what I already had in and … [Read more...]
Wynyard Hall Gardens in the Summer…
A couple of years ago, I shared some photos from our visit to the lovely Wynyard Hall gardens but because of the time of year we visited, the gardens weren't at their best. Today, I wanted to share some pictures of the gardens in the Summer...A couple of week's ago on Instagram, I shared a post about how much I'm enjoying taking photos of all things plants and flowers lately. It appears that Miss Frugal not only read this post but actually took note because yesterday, she actually got up early and suggested that we head to Wynyard Hall Gardens for the morning - just the two of … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things we did this week {5 July 2019}….
Every week I share five frugal things that I've done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life. Before I start though, as always feel that I should say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money - it's not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we're all frugal for different reasons. ;-)1) I made Spanish Chicken this week for the first time and I decided to use chicken … [Read more...]
Five things from Poundland that look like they cost more than a pound….
Every time I go into one of our local pound shops I'm always shocked by some of the things you can buy - some look like they'd cost you way more than a pound! I thought I'd share a few things with you today that I would expect to pay more than a pound for...I do love a good wander around a pound shop as I often find things that are cheaper than the supermarket and that are definitely worth more than a pound but it's worth noting that there are often things that you'll be able to get cheaper elsewhere so be careful what you pop in your basket. Also, I don't know about you … [Read more...]
Happy 10th Blog Birthday to The Diary of a Frugal Family….
I sat down this weekend and realised that today is actually the 10th Birthday of this little blog. How on earth did that happen?I have no idea what made me sit down one day and decide to set up a blog - I mean, don't get me wrong, I had my reasons for wanting some sort of platform to record our family's journey but a blog? I didn't even read blogs myself at the time so I genuinely can't remember what made me set one up and decide to share our lives online with anyone who cared to read.I can't tell you how pleased I am that I did though because blogging has genuinely changed our … [Read more...]

I started to share our meal plans over here again as I really wanted to focus on meal planning for a little while as we went a bit off-track. As well as helping me to focus on our weekly meal plan, these posts have also somehow made me enjoy cooking again so I'm cooking as much for enjoyment as well as the obvious necessity. And because I'm enjoying cooking more and starting to … [Read more...]
