Sometimes, when the skies are grey outside and you're not feeling your best, the best thing for you is some good old fashioned home cooked comfort food and the best comfort food I know is our gorgeous slow cooker rice pudding! Yesterday afternoon was one of those afternoons where comfort food was called for but seeing as I wasn't feeling great, I called on Master Frugal to take over the kitchen and make us a batch.Slow cooker rice pudding really is easy to make yet it tastes so delicious and always makes me feel better. I make it with milk or occasionally if I have some in the house, … [Read more...]

Super Easy Homemade Bath Bombs….
Miss Frugal has been asking me for ages now if she can have a go at making her own bath bombs and I always put her off because there are so many different methods of making them out there that call for ingredients I wouldn't normally have in the house. It finally got to the point where I couldn't put her off any longer so last weekend, I gathered the ingredients we needed and sat and watched her make her version of homemade bath bombs and actually, they came out OK. I don't think we're going to be up there with Lush but I do think that she might actually be able to pull of her plan to make … [Read more...]
Homemade peanut butter and banana dog treats….
At the grand old age of 5 and a half poor Buddy is being subjected Miss Frugal's version of dog training and it's not going well!Buddy was never the easiest dog to train although that may not necessarily be his fault as the vet thinks it might be linked to the medication he had when he was a very young puppy. When he was just a few weeks old he was diagnosed with Puppy Strangles (I'm not sure what the technical term for this is) which can be fatal for puppies. Luckily they caught it early on and with the help of a fair amount of medication, he pulled through but we have no idea what the … [Read more...]
Homemade coconut oil bath melts….
Miss Frugal love a good pamper, as do most teenage girls I suspect. At least once a week, she'll disappear into the bathroom with various products and come back out smelling like a walking version of a Lush shop. She has bath bombs, bubble wands, bath melts, hair shampoo she buys herself that costs double what mine does and that's just products. On top of that there is every type of buffer, sponge and cloth known to man in there too!Last weekend I dropped her off at the train station and made her promise not to buy any more bath related smellies - in exchange for this I promised her … [Read more...]
Homemade gifts – thoughtful and thrifty or tight and cheap?
I want to know how you really feel about homemade presents - is it really the thought that counts or would you feel a little disappointed getting a homemade gift from someone.I think that in some camps there's a bit of a misconception that by giving a homemade gift, you're being a bit tight and trying to save money by doing so (I'm in no way referring to a rather aggressive Facebook thread I read a few days ago here ;-)) whereas in my experience, homemade gifts can, and often do, cost more than a smellies set that you can pick up randomly in the 3 for 2 at Boots. Here's where I'm … [Read more...]
Homemade essential oils room spray….
A couple of weeks ago I made my own essential oils room spray and I've been loving it but it was in an ugly plastic spray bottle that I found in the back of a cupboard so I was a bit reluctant to show it off!(I know, it's not the way it looks that counts, it's the way it smells but humour me)I did really want to share it with you though because my essential oils room spray has made my house smell lovely and I thought you all might love the fact that it contains no chemicals or toxins as much as I do.Once I figured out that I was an essential oils room spray fan, I figured it … [Read more...]
