In my mind, I have a lovely Summer planned which will allow me to successfully juggle my work and my blogging as well as making sure that I have more than enough time to spend with the kids enjoying long lazy days in the sunshine.Whether that actually happens or not is another matter but I'm going to have a good go! ;-)I shared a post last week about how I cope with the Summer Holidays as a working mum and manage working AND family time AND blogging without having a nervous breakdown. I wanted to follow on from that post a little bit this week and share some of the things that I use … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {14th July 2017}….
1) Did you see my homemade sunglasses case on Sunday? It's my first sewing project and I'm over the moon with it just because I know I made it myself!2) I'm a bit of an Ed Sheeran fan, not a mega fan but I do enjoy listening to his music so when the tickets went on sale last Saturday I was determined to get some tickets for me and Mr Frugal to go along. I waited and waited in a queue and finally got to the front and actually managed to get some tickets allocated with a ten minute timer to make the payment before they were released to the next person in the queue. But then I … [Read more...]
10 ways to revamp tired furniture….
Last weekend we had a bit of a mini room makeover in Miss Frugal's bedroom which involved some furniture rearranging, some cheap IKEA furniture and a revamp of some of the things in there It looks really lovely and with a bit of creative thinking, she has a glamorous looking bedroom without the price tag you'd expect! It got me thinking about the different ways you can revamp the furniture in your house on a budget so I thought I'd share some of my ideas with you....1) We revamped our ugly old pine bedside cabinets for the cost of a can of spray paint and it was ridiculously easy to … [Read more...]
Six ways to be supermarket savvy!
Like lots of people, I'd love to be able to shop in the local independent shops but I honestly just don't have the time to shop anywhere other than our local supermarket which is open longer hours than the local shops.More often than not, I do my shopping later on an evening when the kids have taken themselves off to their bedrooms to relax and chat with their friends on Facetime or on the Xbox. This means that I'm lucky enough to pick up some great bargains when I shop but I still have to keep a careful eye on what I buy as I'm one of those people who's easily seduced by a bargain - or … [Read more...]
Posh toad in the hole….
In last week's five frugal things post I shared a photo of my posh toad in the hole and a couple of you have emailed to ask how I made it so I thought I'd share my recipe with you today. Before I do though, I should probably warn you that it's not all that posh! I'm not sure you could ever class a toad in the hole as posh to be honest but it's cheap, filling and easy to make - we call it posh because of the addition of the red onions which really do add another dimension to the traditional version of toad in the hole. How to make Posh Toad in the Hole 100g plain flour 300ml milk 3 … [Read more...]
DIY Sunglasses case….
I think I *may* have mentioned a few times that Miss Frugal and I both have a little bit of a sunglasses obsession. ;-) She has all sorts of pairs ranging from bargains to designer brands which she buys from places like SmartBuyGlasses UK online (she loves a good deal) and there's a couple of pairs in her collection that she's saved for ages to treat herself to so she always shops around. ;-) Have I ever shown you my teen's sunglasses collection. I think she gets her obsession from me :-) 😎 A post shared by UK Thrifty Family Blogger (@frugalfamily) on Feb 22, 2017 at … [Read more...]
