I'm quite a tolerant person and I understand that people, especially children, aren't perfect. We all make mistakes and to me, it's really important that we acknowledge when we make a mistake and that we apologise to anyone our mistake has affected.I've always tried to teach the kids that it's not just the saying sorry that matters because, let's face it, anyone can say the word sorry. That's not hard at all (unless you're Mr Frugal), is it?What is hard is acting like you're sorry an showing the person you're apologising to that you really mean it.As the parent of a teenager and … [Read more...]
Unbelievably Good Roasted Tomatoes….
I've made my famous (in my own head) recipe for roasted tomatoes so so many times over the years and about six years after I first shared it with you, I decided to share it again as the photos and instructions in the first recipe were so poor that they didn't go even half way to showing you just how amazing this recipe really is!Roasted tomatoes with lime, garlic and chilli.... You should know me by now, I like my recipes to be super simple, super tasty and super cheap and this recipe for roasted tomatoes ticks all three boxes! All you need are some cherry tomatoes, two cloves of … [Read more...]
Blog smarter not harder – how I get 65,000 page views a month from Pinterest!
(65,000 figure based on January and February 2017 - it was actually 92,000 back in December although March is looking a little lower than the last few months so far in all honesty. ;-))I often get asked about how I have grown my blog over the years and I've had quite a few emails over the years from bloggers asking me how I've managed to grow my page views to the level they're at now.Despite my (self imposed) rule about not blogging about blogging, I thought that I would share a few of my tips, tricks and ideas with you all so I'm starting a series of posts today about blogging smarter … [Read more...]
Style on a budget – the one with the washi tape manicure….
Miss Frugal has always been a nail biter and no matter what we've tried, she just couldn't seem to kick the habit. But then we booked New York and she asked if she could have her nails done properly with gel polish if she could grow them to a reasonable length. I agreed half because I thought we'd tried everything else to try and help her stop biting them and half because I really didn't think she would manage seeing as she's tried so many times before.Turns out that having amazing nails in time for New York was a better motivator than anything else we've tried in the past as she now … [Read more...]
Ten things I’ve learned from my teenage daughter….
This week Miss Frugal offered to give me a makeover for my Birthday!I don't really wear much make-up usually as I'm not great at putting it on myself so I just sat back and let her do her thing (which took significantly longe than when I do my thing).Honestly, I half expected to hate the finished result so when she did her little reveal at the end I was all ready to bring out my 'I hate it but I'm not going to hurt your feelings' smile. I couldn't believe the result as she'd done such a good job - I've even asked her to teach me to do it her way so that I can try and recreate the … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {17 March 2017}….
1) There's not long until Miss Frugal and I head off to New York and the other day I was having a quick double check of our flight times and I noticed that there was an option to register an British Airways Executive Club card to collect some Avios points on our booking. I'd noticed this before but didn't do anything as we're not exactly frequent flyers but I just thought I'd have a look into it to see if the points were actually worth anything to us. Surprisingly, it totally was worth registering as the points we earned from our booking can be spent on-board with BA for food and drinks so … [Read more...]
