I can trace my love of stationery back to when I was about six years old on holiday in a pretty little town called Zelena Laguna in Croatia. There was a shop there filled with super-cheap exercise books - all with different colours and patterns on the covers and I remember spending far too long choosing just one from them all.I wanted more but my Dad had just bought me a cute mini rucksack and a matching bum bag in the shop before so he'd said I was only allowed one and it felt like the hardest decision I'd ever made at the time.I eventually chose one and that night, I remember sitting … [Read more...]
Life’s too short – use your good stuff….
A couple of years ago someone bought me an a very expensive looking Jo Malone candle in my favourite scent and I loved it. I actually loved it that much that I didn't open it as I didn't want to 'waste' it. ;-)The candle sat, still in it's wrapper in my little ensuite bathroom where I eventually kind of just forgot it was there because it was like part of the furniture in there. Until a couple of weeks ago when I was giving the bathroom a mini makeover and I noticed the wrapper had gotten dusty so I actually got my damp microfibre cloth and dusted the box!!!Mid way through this … [Read more...]
What to do if your partner doesn’t want to be frugal.
I've had a few comments and emails recently from readers asking how they can 'encourage' their partners to be more frugal when they don't really want to be. Honestly, it's a difficult one to answer because in a relationship where things are equal, it's difficult to make someone want to change their lifestyle and spend less money. Especially if they aren't really convinced that there's a real need to change.I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my struggle to convince Mr Frugal to be more frugal and where we're at now in our journey although I'm not sure how much our story will help … [Read more...]
Style on a Budget – the one with the full outfit for under a fiver….
A couple of weeks ago I told you about how Miss Frugal and I try to fulfill her love of designer labels without breaking the bank and today I wanted to share a charity shop triumph with you. We found a full outfit that she loves for under a fiver at the Age UK charity shop in our town. I love the Age UK shop as they don't charge ridiculous prices and they're a goldmine for clothes that Miss Frugal will actually wear.We think all three things will be fab to take to New York as they're quite versatile and can be worn with other things to make different outfits....The picture … [Read more...]
My experience of a hemorrhoidectomy….
I wrote this post originally to share my experience of a hemorrhoidectomy but I was really aware that it made the operation sound awful and I worried that it was one-sided and that other people's experiences might have been better. To balance it out, I asked people to share their own experiences of a hemorrhoidectomy in the comments and I'm so pleased to see so many of you sharing. People who have been through it have shared their experiences along with tips and ideas to try and make it easier. More than that though, they've shared how they felt which is so important as none of … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10 February 2017}….
1) This is less frugal and more sensible I think but let's go with it! I went to pay some cheques in to the bank this week and out of interest, asked when they would be cleared. In no way did I indicate that I needed the money or that I was desperate for the funds to clear but the lady typed a few things into her little computer and then said 'Not until next Wednesday but I can increase your overdraft by £2000 for you no problem at all'.Really??? I just laughed and said no thank you at the time which I'm proud of as I do like the security of having an overdraft and in the past I would have … [Read more...]
