Last week was the first week in ages that I shared my meal plan with you on this blog instead of hiding it away on my meal planning blog.I shared it here for a couple of reasons - the first one is because I'm a little embarrassed by how neglected my poor little meal planning blog is at the moment but the main reason is because this month I wanted to have a BIG focus on our meal planning.I almost always write a meal plan for the week but lately I haven't been spending as much time on it as I used to so meal planning of late has consisted of me hurriedly scribbling five meals down on a … [Read more...]
Why I wish my children hadn’t done so well on their SATs….
If you're looking for tops on how to help your children with their SATs then look here.Next week, every Year 6 student (ages 10-11) will be taking their SATs which is a series of exams that will take place between Monday and Thursday. They'll then have to wait several months for the results which, in case you're wondering, are more important to the schools themselves as they're ranked according to the results of their students. The junior school my children went to was ranked as one of the top primary schools (out of around 20k other junior schools) in the UK for their SATs results … [Read more...]
The most amazing homemade Guacamole you’ve ever tasted….
We're pretty new to the trendy world of avocados and guacamole but I think you'll agree that we've caught up fast with this amazing homemade Guacamole! When Miss Frugal and I went to New York last month we discovered Chipotle which is a kind of fast food chain but the food is Mexican and honestly, the most amazing food I've had in a long time. We had it for lunch on three of the days we were there as we enjoyed it so much and it was really good value for money compared to some of the other things we could have chosen from. We're a bit gutted that there's not a Chipotle near us … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {5th May 2017}….
1) I had to cut the crusts off some bread on Sunday morning to make our favourite family treat breakfast - Nutella French Toast Roll Ups. Rather than waste the crusts, I've popped them in the freezer as I'll be making some homemade fishcakes next week (if I stick to the meal plan I have in mind) and the crusts will make great breadcrumbs to coat them in.2) I invested in some new microfiber cloths from B and Q which were a bargainous 3 for £1 (as they are in the pound shops I think). Microfiber cloths are honestly amazing and they're an essential part of my cleaning kit! They're so … [Read more...]
Project Garden – 20 ideas to inspire your frugal garden makeover
This year, I'm determined that my garden is going to finally look like a garden and not a square of grass with some chairs and a table in it. The problem is that I'm not very green fingered and I don't have the time I'd like to devote to making it the peaceful haven that I'd like it to be so the things I do need to be low maintenance and obviously, not cost me a fortune. We started a few weeks ago when we gathered together all of the junk that seems to have accumulated in our garden and took it all to the tip. This left us with just our table and chairs, two benches that I think we need to … [Read more...]
One burn – three hospitals….
Not last Saturday but the Saturday before, we spent most of the night at A&E with Miss Frugal. It wasn't a great experience if I'm honest and although I wasn't going to share it with you (in case you all think I'm NHS bashing, which I'm not), I've just watched a news interview about more proposed cuts to the NHS so I changed my mind and thought I'd tell you about our night in A&E.Miss Frugal burnt herself with her hair curlers on Saturday afternoon and after doing all the right things to treat it at home, we decided that it didn't need medical attention but that we would keep an … [Read more...]
