Last year I made a little DIY paper basket after dissecting one that Master Frugal made at school to bring his homemade peppermint creams home in. It was such a cute little basket but I had to wait until after Christmas to pull it apart in case I couldn't put it back together again. ;-)It's OK though, I managed to take it apart, figure out how to make my own version and put his back together before he even looked up from his new Xbox game. The DIY paper baskets are great for homemade Christmas treats so I thought I'd have a go at showing you how to make them today.... How to make a DIY … [Read more...]
Some much needed fun at the beach….
I can't believe it's Christmas next week!I haven't been feeling particularly festive if I'm honest but I think that's because, since my operation in October, we haven't really done very much outside of the house together. Even our annual Christmas days out have been either cancelled or the kids have gone with our friends instead of us which has made me sad because I love the things we do at this time of year more than any other.I'm planning on going back to work in a couple of weeks because I feel like life's been on hold for most of this year and it frustrates me. I'm about 75% me … [Read more...]
Peppermint Creams never used to be this hard to make, did they?
I wanted to make something Christmassy with the kids last night but a total lack of energy meant that it really needed to be something super simple which is why I decided on Peppermint creams.Based on my very vague memory of making them at school when I was in the infants, I optimistically thought that we could easily make perfect looking Peppermint Creams in less than half an hour with minimal mess and no fighting.I laid out the ingredients that we'd need, made myself a cup of tea and shouted the kids downstairs to join me for some festive fun.I have no idea how some parents get … [Read more...]

We can all enjoy each other's traditions wherever we are in the world so I hope you find some new ones to … [Read more...]

Encouraging Gratitude in Children at Christmas without cutting back on the presents….
Christmas is often a difficult subject for me to write about from a 'frugal' perspective because, as much as I shop around for the best deals and set myself a budget depending on how much I've saved throughout the year, I don't think it's a time when I'm particularly good at being frugal. When I started writing this blog, the idea was that as a family we'd try and live a more frugal lifestyle and I think we've done a pretty good job for the most part. We're much more financially aware than we were back then and we do things that we know we should be doing to ensure that we save money where … [Read more...]
