September's my least favourite month of the year to be honest as it's the anniversary of when my brother died and the anniversary of when my Mam found out just how ill she was the year later. I've also struggled with going back to work this month after being off for most of the Summer ill and we've had all of the usual stress of going back to school and the various bugs and dramas that come with it.So, all in all, it's been a funny old month with more than it's fair share of lows but I think the lows have made us spend more time together and enjoy each other's company more than … [Read more...]
How easy is it to change energy suppliers?
I'm always recommending that if someone wants to save money then one of the first things to do (after meal planning obviously ;-)) is to change energy suppliers for all of their utilities because the chances are that (a) they're not on the best deal they could be on and (b) there's usually some cashback to be earned for switching.I know from the replies I've had to this advice that lots of you go on to change energy suppliers and save money every single month but more of you decide that it's too much hassle and that the savings aren't worth the effort. And I totally get that. But what … [Read more...]
Homemade essential oils room spray….
A couple of weeks ago I made my own essential oils room spray and I've been loving it but it was in an ugly plastic spray bottle that I found in the back of a cupboard so I was a bit reluctant to show it off!(I know, it's not the way it looks that counts, it's the way it smells but humour me)I did really want to share it with you though because my essential oils room spray has made my house smell lovely and I thought you all might love the fact that it contains no chemicals or toxins as much as I do.Once I figured out that I was an essential oils room spray fan, I figured it … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {23rd September 2016}….
1) I won an award which I know that isn't particularly thrifty of frugal in itself but bear with me here. ;-)I was really pleased to be awarded the Best Lifestyle and Money blog by the lovely team at UK Money Bloggers and gutted that I missed the big posh awards ceremony in London a few weeks ago as I would have loved to meet up with some of the lovely bloggers who were also nominated. My prize arrived this week in the form of vouchers for M&S and (here's where the frugal bit comes in) instead of spending it on yummy food of clothes and handbags, I decided to be practical and … [Read more...]
How to make your own homemade rag wreath….
I think we've established over the years here that I am NOT a natural crafter and no matter how much effort I put in to something, the finished result very rarely ends up looking like it did in my head before I started. That's generally the reason why I stay away from crafts that will be on display for people to see when they come to my house. And then, a couple of weeks ago, I was shopping the other week looking at the pretty fabrics imagining the disasters works of art that I could produce with it when the nice young man brought out a stack of wire wreath rings and my mind started … [Read more...]
Fakeaway chicken chow mein….
Fakeaway chicken chow mein is one of our favourite family meals and I'm pretty sure that if you try it, it'll quickly become one of yours too.Last night we had our favourite fakeaway chicken chow mein for tea and as I was cooking it, it occurred to me that I'd never actually shared my recipe with you! So, since I'm a nice person (honest) and I don't want you missing out on the chance to try this delicious meal I thought I'd share it with you today. It's great as a replacement for your local Chinese takeaway to save some money but it's also great for anyone who's doing Slimming … [Read more...]
