We have an amazing 'Pick Your Own' farm about half an hours drive from where we live and it's amazing with fields full of strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, tayberries and even some green beans - all great quality and much better than you would buy in your local supermarket.Last weekend was our first visit there this season and we weren't disappointed! We had great hour or so finding the best looking fruit to fill our little baskets with and competing to see who could find the best looking strawberry (I won obviously) and came away with loads of fruit - all for the the grand total … [Read more...]
An (almost) live blog of last night’s bath….
I treated myself to some lovely (but expensive) Badedas bubble bath yesterday because it's supposed to be amazingly relaxing and soothing which is just what I need right now. I waited until last night to use it in the hope that everyone else would be occupied with other things so I could have a complete relax but it wasn't to be!Here's an almost live blog of my bath....7.00pmThe bath's ready and it smells amazing, just the smell alone is starting to relax me. I can't wait to get in so I strip off and step into those bubbles.7.01pmI sink down into the masses of gorgeous … [Read more...]
A few rules from the ‘How to be a Teenager’ handbook….
Miss Frugal turned 13 last September and I'm pleased to say that she's been doing really well in her teenager training since then - she mastered the teenage attitude and the sulk with no problem at all and quickly moved on to practicing her storm out of the room move before completely getting the hang of the death stare. In fact, she's doing so well that I'm pretty sure that she has some sort of 'How to be a Teenager' handbook hidden away in her bedroom that she's working her way through, chapter by chapter. Here's just a few of the rules that I'm convinced are in there.... It's … [Read more...]
The end of an era….
Master Frugal has now completed a full two weeks at the secondary school he'll be attending in September and so far, he's liking it which is a huge relief. I'm not sure how the schools deal with transition in your area but here the kids spend pretty much the whole of July at their new schools to help them get used to it ready for when they start for real in September. His time at his Junior school ended at the start of the month with a very emotional leavers ceremony that had me sat with a lump in my throat from the moment it started. I managed to (almost) stop the tears from falling … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {15th July 2016}….
1) I had to buy the last of Master Frugal's new school uniform this week and although it's pretty hard to save money when most of it is compulsory, I did manage to save a little bit. I have no idea why he needs both a short and long sleeved top along with a hoody but I was a good parent and bought them all along with the school socks! I drew the line at the shorts and the tracksuit bottoms as the PE teacher told me that he'd never wear the tracksuit bottoms and any shorts were OK as long as they were black. He has a pair of black nike shorts that he's going to wear and a pair of plain black … [Read more...]
Packed Lunch Cake – it’s frugal, filling and delicious….
I've always been a fan of packed lunches and in the past, I've written about the fact that I could make a healthy and filling packed lunch for around half the price of a school dinner which has saved me a fortune over the years. With both of mine in senior school from September, I'm no longer going to be making packed lunches but I've just made a final batch of our favourite home made packed lunch cake so I thought I'd share the recipe with you on here again and update the costings for 2016 to show that it's still a very frugal way to get something sweet into your child's packed … [Read more...]
