I read a post yesterday by Nicola over at My Frugal Cottage about her goals for July, both financial and personal, and it really got me thinking about whether that's something that would work well for me. I've seen a few similar posts recently and every time I read one, I say to myself that I'm going to do something similar but I've never actually got around to doing it until today.... July's Financial Goals It's an expensive month this month with the end of the school term fast approaching and the new school uniform I need to buy for Master Frugal. I can buy his sister's over the Summer … [Read more...]
14 Amazing Blueberry Recipes to make your mouth water….
Miss Frugal loves blueberries so they're a regular on my shopping list - they're not the cheapest fruit though so we often buy the frozen bags of it or buy as many as we can when we come across them reduced and freeze what we don't eat.Frozen blueberries are amazing in smoothies and most of the recipes I'm sharing with you below and it makes a relatively expensive fruit cheaper which is a huge plus.My favourite way to cook blueberries is our traditional Sunday morning breakfast of American style blueberry pancakes (even though it's been mostly replaced by waffles and waffle omelettes … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {1st July 2016}….
1) I've finally finished my garden table and chairs which started out as a tatty set that we've had for the last few Summers. I bought some Valspar garden paint from B&Q and painted the table and two benches with that pot and then I bought a few of the tester sized pots to paint the chairs. I might be biased but I think it looks amazing! The paint goes on really well and much better than the tin of paint I bought from Cuprinol which I bought in Ivory originally to do the chairs. It just wouldn't cover the first chair despite a couple of coats which is fine as it was a dark wood … [Read more...]
My secret to planning some spontaneous fun….
That doesn't make sense does it? The words planning and spontaneous aren't supposed to go together at all but they do, they really do!I have a bag that I keep in the back of the car in the Summer which is filled with things that mean I can say YES when they want to do things - let me explain how we're prepared for Summer with our Summer bag!The first things in our Summer bag are two old towels which mean that the kids are free to paddle in the sea if we have a trip to the beach or we decide to stop off there on the way home from somewhere. In the past I might have said no because … [Read more...]
Small things that make me smile {June 2016}….
Even though I've not been too well for the last couple of weeks (just a virus that's dragging on - nothing dramatic ;-)) we've still had another really lovely month with some great moments that have made me smile....The first one I'm going to tell you about today is the text Miss Frugal got this morning from one of her friends as she was getting ready for a school visit to spend the days with some monks at a monastery. Her friends seems to have not read the letter too well as she woke up this morning gutted to find out she was going to visit monks and not monkeys! She only realised it was … [Read more...]
5 Hotspots you can de-clutter in 15 minutes!
This weekend has been lovely as I finally seem to have shaken the lurgy that's been following me around for the last few weeks. I'm still not sleeping well though as my body seems to have forgotten that it's supposed to go to sleep when it's dark - this means that I don't have that much energy through the day at the minute so I'm trying to tackle everything I want to do in short sharp blasts.I've had a list of areas at home that I've wanted to start de-cluttering since I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo so I decided to tackle a few of the smaller areas over the last … [Read more...]
