I can't be the only person who has a random packet of walnuts in my cupboard!I have no idea where they've come from as they're not something we usually eat but I've managed to use them up today in these delicious banana and walnut cupcakes which were mostly inspired by the two pathetic looking bananas that I spied in the fruit bowl looking like they were way past their best.Homemade banana and walnut cupcakes 160g butter 160g sugar 180g flour 2 eggs 1 tablespoon milk 1 capful of vanilla essence 2 bananas, mashed a handful of walnuts chopped (saving a few larger pieces for … [Read more...]
Subscription Boxes – Value for Money or a Waste of Money?
I'm not sure how I feel about these subscription boxes that are popping up all over the place. You know the ones I mean, don't you? The ones where you pay a monthly charge and get a box filled with random products delivered to your door each month. On the face of it they're excellent value because the products you get are generally worth a fair amount more than you pay for the box itself but in reality, if they're products that you wouldn't have bought anyway then that's not good value at all.It wouldn't be very frugal of me not to point out that paying £10 for a box of goodies worth … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {8th April 2016}….
Right, unlike last week I'm feeling pretty confident that I'll get to five easily this week!1) Did you see my new meal planner and matching pictures that I made from some cheap Ikea frames and a free wallpaper sample? They're hiding some awful greasy blu tac marks on the kitchen wall so not only do they look great, they've also saved me from having the hassle of painting AND they're giving me a much needed boost in the meal planning department.2) Last Sunday was a great de-clutter day for me. I sorted out all the kids DVDs and took them to our local cash converters where they … [Read more...]
Easy Ways to update your wardrobe on a budget….
As part of our de-cluttering process we had a good old sort through Miss Frugal's wardrobe at the weekend. We were pretty ruthless and got rid of anything that hadn't been worn in a while, anything that she no longer liked and anything that was past it's best. After we'd sorted through every single piece of clothing that she owns, we ended up with two full black sacks to take to the charity shop which seems like a lot but we haven't been through her wardrobe since the start of Winter. Even then, we were much less ruthless that time as we kept lots of things that we probably shouldn't have … [Read more...]
Eleven lessons I want to teach my daughter….
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of the relationship I have with my daughter. At almost 14, she still enjoys spending time with me (although I'm not always her first choice these days) and will still happily sit and fill me on what's going on in her life. She's very honest with me and I like to think that she knows that she can ask me anything (as she frequently does).I love the person she's growing up to be and I am making the most of every minute we have together trying to teach her the important things that I think she needs to know in order to be the person I know she can … [Read more...]
How to sell things on Facebook to make some extra cash….
Have you ever wondered how to sell things on Facebook to make some extra cash?Over the last few years, Facebook selling groups have been popping up left, right and centre and as far as I'm concerned, they've completely overtaken eBay as my favourite way to sell unwanted things. While Facebook was mainly created for social networking, the impact it has created to internet users is undeniably overwhelming. It even penetrated business industry and became a new form of advertising channel."It's super easy to list items for sale, there's no charges and no faffing about with postage - what … [Read more...]
