OK, I don't think I'm going to blow your mind here but I did want to tell you about a change I made a few months ago to my shopping habits that's saved me some money!I used to go shopping on a Friday night after work and in theory, I would buy everything we needed to get us through to the following Friday except for a mid-week mini shop for fruit and veg where we needed it.The problem was that we're all at home for most of the weekend and with a fridge full of food we were more likely to snack - not only on treats but on things like carrots (Miss Frugal loves carrot sticks), yoghurts … [Read more...]
Converting the garage {Part One}….
When we bought our current house, we deliberately chose a slightly smaller house than we could have afforded (I know - the complete opposite to what the experts tell you to do) because we wanted to have more money each month for family fun.I know that isn't the best thing to do but we moved house not long after my Mam and my brother died and at the time all I that was getting me through the days was my family and having seen just how short life can be, I wanted to make sure that we made the most of every single day.I was also convinced that my old home was unlucky as we didn't have the … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {15 January 2016}….
I hope it's not just me who's counting the days until January pay day!1) This week I've taken my lunch to work every day which is an achievement in itself for me - especially when you consider that I was able to say the same last week too! It's saves me a fortune and considering it takes me less than five minutes on a night to make then I really need to make sure that I keep it up. I've bought another little packed lunch box this week for my crispbreads and cheese triangles (my current favourite lunch) so now I have my sistema containers for soups and leftovers and this little … [Read more...]
Nothing is your own when there’s a teenage girl in the house….
I'd say that Miss Frugal is a pretty typical 13 year old right now. She's permanently attached to her phone or her iPad and seems to be in constant contact with her friends be it on Messenger, Instagram or Facetime. If you ask her then she'll tell you she loves school but isn't keen on the lessons part of it (?!?) and the only reason that she enjoys it is because of her friends. She loves clothes although while the weather's so miserable she's more often than not in a pair of pyjamas when she's at home and she has a bit of a makeup obsession that she funds mostly by using her … [Read more...]
10 lessons you should teach your teenager about the internet….
I've recently had 'the talk' with Miss Frugal. Not the birds and the bees talk, that was years ago and to be fair that was more her sharing her horror with me about what someone had told her at school and me putting her straight on a few things that she's heard. No, the talk we had was about the dangers of the internet and social media because, as much as I hate it, I've come to realise that I can't monitor everything that she does and even if I could, there are plenty of ways that she could get around my rules if she wanted to seeing as she can access the internet in so many different … [Read more...]
My Word of the Year – Happy….
I’ve read lots of blog posts and social media updates over the last few weeks where people have been sharing their word of the year - the word that represents something they want to focus on in 2016.I'm a big fan of having a word of the year (last year I had more than one) and I’ve really enjoyed reading and hearing about what everyone else had chosen for their word as well as being inspired by the reasons everyone has for picking their own particular words.I didn't have to think very hard about my word for 2016 as it's something that's been playing on my mind for a little while … [Read more...]
