One of our favourite Christmas Eve traditions is sprinkling our homemade pet friendly reindeer dust on the path outside our house just before bedtime. When I look through our Christmas photos over the years, it's so cute to see the kids changing each year as they spread the reindeer dust they've made themselves on the path to make sure that Santa doesn't have trouble finding us. From little toddlers to non believers - it'll always be one of our family traditions I hope!It does upset me though that some people still use actual glitter in their Reindeer dust! I admit that glitter looks … [Read more...]
An amazing homemade gift – Happiness in a bag {With a free printable label}….
I saw this idea recently when someone bought a friend at work something similar for her Birthday and it was so sweet that I decided to try and make something similar for Miss Frugal for Christmas. It's a a Bag of Happiness and it's filled with little things that are symbolic of what you want them to represent- here's what's in the bag I've made Miss Frugal....A plaster to make it better when you hurt (I just used a cute plaster I had in the first aid box) A heart so you'll know how loved you are (You could use a loveheart sweet but I just made mine out of a shiny pipe-cleaner) A … [Read more...]
What do you do with all of your children’s Christmas cards from over the years? Here’s what we do with ours….
Every year since the kids started nursery they've proudly presented us with a Christmas card that they've made for us!You might remember that I generally don't hang on to my children's artwork but I make an exception for all of the beautiful Christmas cards that they've made for us over the years!Every year when we unpack the Christmas decorations, I unpack all of their cards from years gone by and put them to one side. As a family, we decorate the tree and fill the house with all of our Christmas ornaments while we listen to Christmas carols but the homemade cards stay on the … [Read more...]

I don't know about you but I sometimes have days where I feel like I'm on my feet and on the go from the moment I wake up until bedtime finally arrives!Take today for example....I got up early to drop Master Frugal off at a school event which lasted two hours and while he was there, I took Miss Frugal into town to buy some new school trousers and a couple of bits she needed for the presents she's making for her friends at school. We got back in time to pick Master Frugal up and then we had a quick lunch before taking the dog for a walk in the woods near us and then it was back out … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {11th December 2015}….
1. You're going to laugh at me for my first frugal act of the week this week! Years ago, Mr Frugal and I used to buy each other expensive cards for Christmas and because I'm a hoarder I always used to save them. Anyway, one year I got them all out and noticed a theme - they all said something like 'To the one I love' or To Someone Special', they all had a cute picture on the front and they all had practically the same message written inside. Oh yeah, and they all cost a small fortune! So that year, we decided not to send each other a card but to simply swap cards from … [Read more...]
Homemade teacher’s gifts that will save you money but still look amazing….
Do you make homemade teacher's gifts at Christmas or do you buy your children's teachers gifts?I know lots don't but I always like to give them a gift to show my appreciation because I imagine that being a teacher is one of the hardest jobs there is, especially these days with all of the paperwork and the expectations on them to achieve great results. I often buy the gifts but this year we're planning to make our own homemade teacher's gifts as Master Frugal has five teachers and teaching assistants that he wants to get something for and I suspect if we didn't make them, I'd end up … [Read more...]
