I'm sure we all know from experience that it's very rare that the run up to Christmas (and the big day itself) will go off without a hitch, a meltdown or even a disaster so what I wanted to share with you today are my seven super simple rules to make sure you have a great family Christmas even taking into account everything that could go wrong....Christmas Day is a day that we spend weeks, if not months, preparing ourselves and our homes for by the time the day arrives we (meaning me) usually have such high expectations of the perfect Christmas that we (again meaning me) stress out over … [Read more...]
Christmas Lemon and Ginger Cupcakes….
One of the tastes that I associate most with this time of year is Ginger. It's lovely warming taste and spicy smell makes me feel instantly Christmassy and as a family, we usually make a gingerbread house to decorate early in December and closer to Christmas we'll make some little gingerbread decorations for the top part of the tree (any food on the lower branches is claimed by Buddy usually).I thought about making a ginger caked today but I had some lemons to use up so I made some yummy lemon and ginger cupcakes instead. The tang of the lemon flavour goes brilliantly with the warmth … [Read more...]

The week before Christmas is a time that I find hard to be frugal and not be tempted by all the goodies in the shops that I know I really don't need and I do buy things that I wouldn't normally buy - it is Christmas after all....1. One of our favourite Christmas Eve traditions is sprinkling our homemade pet friendly reindeer dust on the path outside our house just before bedtime. When I look through our Christmas photos over the years, it's so cute to see the kids changing each year as they spread the reindeer dust they've made themselves on the path to make sure that Santa doesn't have trouble finding us. From little toddlers to non believers - it'll always be one of our family traditions I hope!It does upset me though that some people still use actual glitter in their Reindeer dust! I admit that glitter looks … [Read more...]

I saw this idea recently when someone bought a friend at work something similar for her Birthday and it was so sweet that I decided to try and make something similar for Miss Frugal for Christmas. It's a a Bag of Happiness and it's filled with little things that are symbolic of what you want them to represent- here's what's in the bag I've made Miss Frugal....A plaster to make it better when you hurt (I just used a cute plaster I had in the first aid box) A heart so you'll know how loved you are (You could use a loveheart sweet but I just made mine out of a shiny pipe-cleaner) A … [Read more...]

Every year since the kids started nursery they've proudly presented us with a Christmas card that they've made for us!You might remember that I generally don't hang on to my children's artwork but I make an exception for all of the beautiful Christmas cards that they've made for us over the years!Every year when we unpack the Christmas decorations, I unpack all of their cards from years gone by and put them to one side.
