You might have seen last week that we visited Gretna Green with the kids to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary and I thought I’d tell you a little bit more about Gretna Green because it’s a really nice place to visit for the day.We woke up on the day we were due to visit Gretna Green and I’m not going to lie, I was gutted to open our curtains and see the rain coming down hard! We considered not going but we ended up going because nothing else that we had planned for the weekend was indoors, which wasn’t particularly very clever for a November weekend away, was it?We got married at … [Read more...]
{Free Printables} Letter to Santa templates and how to get a reply from the big guy himself….
Writing our annual letters to Santa is one of our Christmas traditions and probably the only Christmassy thing that we do with the kids before the 1st December. We always do it at some point in November because (a) I like to be all bought and wrapped as early as possible so the sooner I know what they want, the better and (b) we generally send their letters to the Royal Mail Santa Service for a reply and their deadline is usually early on in December. This year is the first year that we have no Santa believers in the house so trying to get them to write to Santa with a wishlist didn't go … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {13th November 2015}….
1. You might remember from last week's post that we had a cheeky weekend away? Well we had a great time and I'm pleased to say that it was the sort of weekend where we didn't really spend any more money than we would have at home. Apart from our entrance fee to the Gretna Green museum, we used our English Heritage cards to visit Carlisle Castle and spent the rest of the time using the facilities at the holiday park where we were staying. We didn't eat out at all as the kitchen had everything I needed to cook just as well as I could at home. We didn't even go for a drink or to the … [Read more...]
Who needs a Sat Nav when you have your phone….
Last week, I shared my new discovery with you all, an app that you can use as a scanner, and this got me thinking that there must be lots of other things that can be replaced by an app these days.Looking through my phone, I have a few apps on my phone that replace something I used to have so I thought I'd share a few of them with you, starting with the most useful app I think I have on my phone - Waze. Now I know I mentioned this app a few months ago in one of my weekly ‘Five Frugal Things posts but having used it again last weekend, I’ve decided it needs a post all of its own!I’m not … [Read more...]
What did we do before the internet….
We've just got back from a last minute weekend cheap weekend away and although we had an amazing time, there was no Wi-Fi and practically no signal anywhere in the whole area which meant a long weekend with almost no internet access. I’d love to be able to say that life without the internet was all good and that I didn’t miss it at all but I’d be lying! As a blogger, I really missed not being able to check in on here and make sure everything was ticking over and I obviously missed being able to check in on Facebook and share my photos with you all on Instagram but they weren’t the main … [Read more...]
What’s a good price when it comes to home cooked meals….
I don't tend to think of the meals I cook in terms of how much they cost per portion because I often use food that I get reduced or things that I already have in the house but an article I read a while ago shared a few recipes that cost under 50p a portion.Lots of people were commenting how great it was that you could cook meals so cheaply but I must admit that I did look at some of the ideas and the tiny portion sizes and think that I could do better. But could I do better - is it really possible to feed a family of 4 on a £2 meal budget and still make sure that what you're serving is … [Read more...]
