I always find it hard to be frugal and thrifty when the kids are off school but this week's been easier than usual as it's been a bit of a chill out week for the kids and we haven't done much at all.1. First of all I have an update to one of last week's five frugal things. My new settee is in place and looking very lovely if I do say so myself....I briefly mentioned my cushion bargains in this week's bargain of the week post but just in case you missed it, I wanted to share my cushion bargains with you. I went to Tesco and Asda on the night that I got the sofa as I was so excited … [Read more...]
Seven Frugal and Fun things to do at Halloween….
The shops are filled with Halloween goodies at the moment and if you could spend a fortune on it all if you wanted to and I'm sure if you did, you'd have a great family night but it's really not necessary. We always enjoy Halloween as a family and we don't spend much at all! Here's a few of our ideas for some good old fashioned Halloween family fun.... 1. Make some Spooky ghostly meringues2. An obvious one but I'm going to say it anyway - carve your own pumpkin. 3. Make Halloween cupcakes and invite your friends around to eat them with you!4. Zombify yourself using the … [Read more...]
Why Pocketmoney works for us….
In the past when I've written about pocketmoney a few people have comment that they don't give their children pocketmoney because they give them money when they need it and buy them treats etc through the week.I kind of understand that although I'm not sure what that teaches children about budgeting but it wouldn't work for us because Miss Frugal especially would be constantly asking for money to do this and that and there's no way I'd buy some of the things that she chooses to save up for with her money (a £15 MAC lipstick is her recent purchase).Rocking her MAC lipstick ;-) We … [Read more...]
#DealOfTheDay – Elf on a Shelf….
Over the past few years the slightly American tradition of Elf on a Shelf has become more and more popular here in the UK and every Christmas my Facebook and Instagram timelines are full of naughty little elves getting up to all sorts of mischief. If you've not heard of Elf on a Shelf then you're probably wondering what on earth I'm on about ;-)It's basically a tradition where you have a family elf who comes to visit on the 1st December and stays up until Christmas Eve when Santa will take him back home with him. The elf is supposed to be keeping an eye on the kids and making sure … [Read more...]
Could you live without TV?
In the past I've always said that Sky TV was something that we would happily pay for - it was our little luxury and we were OK with it seeing as we don't drink, smoke or go out very much!I can't remember exactly how much we used to pay for our Sky package but I think it used to be around £70 a month for the full package including the movies and the sports. We recently changed to Virgin Media and saved a fortune by taking our phone and broadband with them and getting a cheaper package without the sports or the movies. The sports channels are no big loss to anyone apart from Mr Frugal … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan {26th October 2015}….
It's half term here this week so I imagine that this week's plan will change a little bit but here's what I'd like to think we'll be having....As always, I won't bore you with the specifics of every meal but there's a couple of things I will tell you about:Chicken Surprise is what I like to call it when I know we'll be having chicken but I have no idea how we'll be having it. I'm thinking either chicken curry or cajun chicken. Hot dogs and fries are actually those little Richmond sausages which I bought reduced last week and some reduced hot dog buns so less than 75p for the … [Read more...]
