After a lovely Summer, the kids went back to school last Thursday looking very smart with big smiles on their faces although they had no intention of smiling for our annual back to school photo - I think I'll be lucky to get them to even pose for one next year!We talked about what they wanted to achieve this year at school and it surprises me (although it really shouldn't) that the things they want to achieve are completely different to the things I want for them this school year. Miss FrugalMy beautiful almost-teenager would like to get a level 7 grade in maths, skydive and have an … [Read more...]
Get fit the fun way….
Did you know that 10 minutes of jumping on a trampoline is the equivalent of a 30 minute jog? That’s an amazing fact if you ask me and considering Miss Frugal spends at least half an hour every single day on our trampoline then there’s no wonder that she’s so fit – I could do with spending some time on it myself. ;-)But as much as I value the health benefits of our trampoline, that’s not what makes me love it so much, it’s the pure enjoyment I see on both children’s faces when they’re out there together that makes me happy. They play on it whatever the weather and I’ve often … [Read more...]
Delicious Lemon and Blueberry Muffins….

Can you freeze cupcakes and muffins?
A few years ago I would have laughed at you if you'd told me that not only would I have a big bag filled with homemade muffins in my freezer but that I would also be baking specifically to keep that bag topped up but these days it just normal to me.I often bake muffins on a Sunday and freeze most of them before we're tempted to eat them all (we would given half the chance) and then every night when I'm making lunches for the following day, I just get one out and pop it in the packed lunch box where it will defrost overnight ready to be eaten at lunch the next day. There's lots of … [Read more...]
Days out: Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens….
Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Morpeth is described on the English Heritage website as somewhere that you can lose yourself and when we were struggling to decide where to go for the day last weekend using our English Heritage membership, it was this description that swung it for us: ....with its unique combination of Grecian architecture, medieval ruins, formal terraces and lush jungle-esque Quarry Garden. Soak up the sights and smells of our Grade 1 listed gardens, roam the fabulous pillars in the grand hall, and enjoy wonderful views from the top of the castle tower. Belsay Hall was … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {5th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I know I've already mentioned this in my post about our visit to Mount Grace Priory last week but we've got ourselves an annual family membership to English Heritage which means we can get into over 400 sites across the UK without having to pay anything other than our monthly Direct Debit which will be less than £8. We've already had two great days out which would have cost around £50 if we had paid entry so in one week we've already got some great use out of it!2. Remember the fruit and veg that we bought when we got lost last … [Read more...]
