I am fully aware that you hate me right now and that your finger is hovering over the X in the corner of your screen but I have some very good reasons for using the dreaded C word so early in the year.Shall I tell you my reasons why? It's because for those people who are paid monthly, Christmas is now only four paydays away and that's if you're counting December payday which is usually right before Christmas and has to last you until payday in January. That means that in reality, you only have three paydays left until Christmas. Are you still with me?There's also the fact that … [Read more...]
Days Out: Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula….
We've been to Whitby Abbey a few times now but we haven't been for a few years so when we woke up to blue skies and sunshine last Sunday we decided to have a drive to Whitby and visit again. Here's what the English Heritage has to say about Whitby Abbey: Perched high on a cliff, it's easy to see why the haunting remains of Whitby Abbey were inspiration for Bram Stoker's gothic tale of 'Dracula'. Sink your teeth into years of history, amazing views and a packed events programme, just a short climb away from the picturesque Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby. We drove up to the Abbey but you … [Read more...]
Delicious homemade Avocado and Honey facemask….
She's been at it again!Miss Frugal loves making homemade beauty treatments and over the last few months I've shared her homemade lip scrub, lavender and oats bath soak and her beautiful lime and ginger body scrub. Today she spotted an avocado in the fridge and decided that she was going to make herself a face mask.... Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {11th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I've filled one of the drawers in my garage freezer with reduced breadbuns that I bought for 1p a pack in Tesco. They're the small pre-sliced Warburtons buns and the pre-sliced hot dog buns and they're brilliant to have in for packed lunches! I just get one out on a night make the sandwich while the bun is frozen and then pop it in a sandwich bag in the fridge overnight and it's perfect when he goes to have it the next day!2. On the subject of reductions, we had a whole meal for three of us for just 65p from the reduction bay this … [Read more...]
What I want my children to achieve this school year….
After a lovely Summer, the kids went back to school last Thursday looking very smart with big smiles on their faces although they had no intention of smiling for our annual back to school photo - I think I'll be lucky to get them to even pose for one next year!We talked about what they wanted to achieve this year at school and it surprises me (although it really shouldn't) that the things they want to achieve are completely different to the things I want for them this school year. Miss FrugalMy beautiful almost-teenager would like to get a level 7 grade in maths, skydive and have an … [Read more...]
Get fit the fun way….
Did you know that 10 minutes of jumping on a trampoline is the equivalent of a 30 minute jog? That’s an amazing fact if you ask me and considering Miss Frugal spends at least half an hour every single day on our trampoline then there’s no wonder that she’s so fit – I could do with spending some time on it myself. ;-)But as much as I value the health benefits of our trampoline, that’s not what makes me love it so much, it’s the pure enjoyment I see on both children’s faces when they’re out there together that makes me happy. They play on it whatever the weather and I’ve often … [Read more...]
