I think I'm going to struggle with my five frugal things post this week because we've all been ill since last week. Me and the kids are wiped out from lack of sleep due to all our coughing and sniffling and Mr Frugal had to be brought home from work suffering from a severe vertigo attack! Thankfully, we're all on the mend now and counting the hours to the weekend so we can have a good catch up on all of the sleep we've missed.Let's see if we can actually get to five.... Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I bought some Asparagus tips reduced from £2 to 20p at Tesco last night - … [Read more...]
Jack Daniels Jelly Shots….
When I was tidying my kitchen cupboards last weekend (in my defence, I was too ill to go out but well enough to be bored) and I found some cola flavoured jelly that I bought from Morrisons last Summer.I decided to make it up as a treat for the kids for after tea but as I boiled the kettle, I spied the hardly touched bottle of Jack Daniels that had been sitting on the shelf untouched since Christmas.I'm sure you can tell what's coming here....I made up the jelly following the instructions but didn't add as much boiling water as I was supposed to - I think I left out about 150ml … [Read more...]
Wednesday’s Wardrobe – When bargain hunting goes well….
Welcome to this week's Wednesday's Wardrobe!Wednesday’s Wardrobe is a weekly linky that I'll be co-hosting along with two fantastic bloggers, Emma and Sarah and Miss Frugal especially is really enjoying working on these posts together each week. You might have seen that I was given some credit last week to review a voucher app called Zeek where you can buy discounted gift vouchers. I ended up buying some New Look gift vouchers for Miss Frugal so she could buy some Summer shoes and clothes and we collected them from our local shop yesterday. This is her first outfit:We also … [Read more...]
10 ways to get a good night’s sleep….
I'm one of those people who needs sleep to wake up bright and happy in the morning and if I have a bad night's sleep then believe me there isn't any bright or happy going on in this house the next morning! Here's some of my tips for a good night sleep....Try and get into the habit of going to bed the same time each night so you can get into a routine. Your body will get used to the time you go to bed which should help you with getting to sleep. Don't drink caffeine or eat spice foods or large meals close to bedtime. I try and drink mint tea on a night. If I have a lot on my mind … [Read more...]
Save money like your Grandma used to….
You might have seen in my Five Frugal things post last week that I taught Miss Frugal how to mend a hole in her trousers. This is something I thought would be the first thing they would teach in her sewing lessons at school but no, she can cover a notebook in fabric like a pro but they haven't got to the part where they learn actual life skills yet!It seems a bit like basic skills that our grandparents took for granted have been forgotten about. Things like sewing can be looked at as being a bit old fashioned which is a real shame because it can save money and give you a feeling of … [Read more...]
Free Printable Stick it on your fridge door and say goodbye to ‘Mum, I’m Bored’ forever!
Anyone with children of a certain age will probably (almost definitely)have heard them utter the words 'Mum, I'm bored' at some point! It drives me mad, especially when there's so much for children to do these days so the words are banned in my house although I can always tell when they're bored because of the way they wander from room to room picking things up and putting them straight back down again. ;-)So as well as our bored jar (which is amazing for giving the kids ideas to keep themselves occupied) we also have a little posted on the side of the fridge:The poster works … [Read more...]
