Social Media is great - used correctly it's a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, to meet like minded people and even to follow your favourite celebrities and brands. But there's a different side to social media, the side that I don't want my children to experience but that I'm having to consider now that Miss Frugal is coming to the age where she is asking if she can have her own Facebook and twitter account.Lots of her friends already have them but I'm reluctant for many reasons not least because the age restrictions are there for a reason and to join, I would have to … [Read more...]
Please don’t tell the kids that I’ve shared these videos….
Look at these cute (but not great quality) videos I just found while I was in the process of tidying up my YouTube channels. This first one is a very cute seven year old Miss Frugal telling you all how to bake a cake....I also found this one which brings back a few nightmares (fast forward to around 10 seconds before the end and you'll see what I mean)...And this one which make my ears hurt....I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to transfer them to my new YouTube channel but I don't think you can so I thought I'd share them on here instead.Let's just hope the kids … [Read more...]
Role Models….
This morning there's lots of tributes on Facebook to a US fitness guru and reality TV star Greg Plitt who tragically died when he was hit by a train yesterday in California and even though I've never heard of this person before I still feel very sad for his family, his friends and even his fans.Reading through all the comments about the impact he seems to have had on a lot of people he'd never even met he seems to have been a really good guy - an inspiring role model for many.As I'm reading the reports of his death and the many, many tribute posts. One thing is jumping out at me each … [Read more...]
What foods are in Season right now….
How do you choose what fruit and vegetables you cook with? Is it based on what you fancy with your tea or do you ever think about what's in season before you decide? I'm usually more of a cook whatever I fancy kind of cook but this year I've decided that I'm going to try and think a bit more about what foods are in season when I plan my meals. There's a couple of reasons for this, the first being that fruit and veg that are in season are usually better value for money because they're readily available and not having to be shipped in from somewhere or grown in a hothouse somewhere. Which … [Read more...]
Oh You Pretty Things – Christmas Presents….
The lovely Sonia and Mary have started a lovely new linky called Oh You Pretty Things which is all about sharing the stories behind your treasures. There's a theme each week and this week, it's all about Christmas presents but before I tell you about my favourite Christmas presents, I want to tell you a bit more about December.I had a slightly stressful month as we had a few worrying weeks waiting for some test results for Master Frugal. He's not been sleeping well lately and has been feeling sick and dizzy a lot which has meant we've all been getting much less sleep than we need. Add … [Read more...]
Why we love Netflix….
You probably know I'm part of the Netflix #StreamTeam and have been for a while now but what you might not know is that we've had (and paid for ourselves) Netflix for a few years now and I want to tell you today why we love it so much.First of all, it's great for the kids - when you sign in you have the option to go to just shows suitable for children which I love. There's nothing on there that I don't want them to watch so I don't have to police what they choose to watch. There's lots of shows for them to watch when they want to watch them including some shows they can't watch anywhere … [Read more...]
