I know Halloween is still a few weeks away yet but the shops have been filled with Halloween goodies since the day the kids went back to school practically so I decided it was only right that this month's pound shop bargains post should be Halloween themed. We weren't disappointed with the Halloween goodies in our favourite pound show and managed to pick up Master Frugal's costume for just £2 - it's just a mask and a glove really but he loves it and he can wear his normal clothes with it which is ideal for him. There were lots of other masks and costume related items like witches hats, … [Read more...]
Fabulously Frugal #1….
Last week I wrote about our visit to the Festival of Thrift but what I don't think I said was that it opened my eyes to just how many ways there were to save money and to be frugal and thrifty. I came home last Saturday night and scribbled down ideas and thoughts until my hand hurt and I still have more things in my head that I need to get down on paper. But here's the thing, even if I filled my notebook with ideas, I still wouldn't be covering even a fraction of it!So, as I work through my notebook and start to make a bit of sense out of my scribblings, I'm looking to you all. I want … [Read more...]
Our favourite free game….
One of our favourite games to play as a family is completely free, can be played anywhere and needs nothing else to play other than your imagination. We call it the cloud game and although it can be played anywhere I find that it's best played in the car when the kids are super bored as it always makes us laugh and keeps us occupied for a while. All you have to do is look at the sky and tell everyone else what you can see so they can look for it too - everyone's imagination is different so where Miss Frugal might see a dolphin, Master Frugal might see a dinosaur. There's no rules and no … [Read more...]
Welcome to this year’s after school activities….
This year we've taken a bit of different approach to after school activities, partly because the kids are a bit older and seem to be more interested in doing something and partly because there is a lot more activities available this year because of the opening of a few new facilities in our area. We've done a couple of weeks of trying out everything on offer and then last week, we had a sit down and decided what it is that they wanted to stick to and go on a regular basis. So, Miss Frugal has tried sea cadets, youth club, movie making, swimming, tennis and gym sessions for kids. She's … [Read more...]
Nail varnish isn’t just for nails….
Miss Frugal has a bit of a nail varnish obsession and over the last year or so she's built up a great little collection which is filled with every colour imaginable along with all sorts of other nail related stuff. I know she buys the odd bottle with her pocket money and she's bought lots from the car boot sales we've been to but it wasn't until a week or so ago that I realised just how much she does have! For all that she loves the stuff, she doesn't actually wear it as much as you'd think so seeing how much she had got me thinking that there must be other uses for nail varnish.I know … [Read more...]
Crocktober….
I genuinely can't believe that it's October already!September is usually a month where I usually feel a bit all over the place as we settle into a routine after the Summer Holidays and this year was no different other than the fact that the older the kids seem to get, the more after school activities they seem to be doing. I love the activities they're doing at the moment and I really feel like they are getting something out of them.But.... It makes life pretty difficult as far as sitting down and eating together as a family most nights seeing as we have nights where activities cross … [Read more...]
