In the real world, we don't all agree on everything. Sometimes, you think you're right and actually, someone comes along and shares their point of view with you and you start to think that they have a point. Or at the very least you have a better understanding of where they're coming from. So, once a month I'm going to post my opinion on a particular issue and ask another blogger to share their differing views.Last month was all about packed lunches Vs school dinners and this month, we're discussing something that affects lots of us - screen time! And because I know that Jen has … [Read more...]
A Thrifty Day Out….
I was having a look through one of those free magazines that the kids bring home from school a couple of weeks ago and I came across a day out which sounded like it was made for us - The Festival of Thrift. In the words of the magazine it promised to be all of my favourite words - fun, funky fabulously frugal and most important of all, free! How could we not go?Master Frugal got to be a blacksmith for half an hour and managed to make me a very presentable S hook for the kitchen and Miss Frugal found an airstream caravan called milkshakes and manicures where she … [Read more...]
Supporting your children’s learning….
I genuinely believe that a school can only do so much to teach our children - the rest of it is up to us, as parents. We have the opportunity to take what our children are learning at school and run with it - making it as interesting as possible for them at the same time. For example, at the moment Master Frugal is learning about the First World War and he is enjoying it more than any topic he has covered before at school. He loves to tell us about what he's learned that day and has lots of random facts about the war stored in his head already. While he is at that stage and is … [Read more...]
How to have an Awesome Pamper Party….
IngredientsA few giggly girls A million different colours of nail varnish (and LOTS of nail varnish remover and cotton wool) Some face masks (the ones that dry and peel off like PVA glue make the most mess but are the most fun if you're interested) A newly purchased foot spa (bargain from the car boot sale) Popcorn and a girly movie Some music (apparently One Direction are 'so last year') Some ear plugsMethodSpend at least ten minutes choosing music that everyone likes. Paint the girls nails with one (or more) of the million nail varnishes. Wait several moments for the … [Read more...]
Thrifty Thursday – A good store cupboard can save you money….
I *try* to plan our meals each week but it's not always easy planning a week's worth of meals in advance and as much as I'd like to tell you that I stick to it rigidly every day, I can''t! There are regular last minute changes for lots of very boring reasons - no time to cook what was planned, forgot to put everything in the slow cooker on the morning, a hungry person ate what I was planning to cook when I wasn't looking. Sometimes, it's simply because we just don't fancy what we had planned! But I always make sure that I don't mess with my plan to the point where I need to go to the shop … [Read more...]
Greed….
During this Summer's World Cup tournament, Master Frugal decided that he did like football after all. He's always enjoyed playing it but the World Cup seemed to really hold his interest and not only did he start to enjoy watching matches, he started to learn the players and appreciate the amazing skills some of the players have as well as developing a dislike of the divers and the biters that made the headlines during the tournament. When the World Cup ended, he had a few new heroes to look up to and a new found enjoyment of all things football. He even asked for a football kit … [Read more...]
