I'm afraid I've turned into a bit of a candle addict lately!I love the glow of a candle on a night and I love the scented candles that make my house smell so nice - the only problem is that the nicer a candle smells, the more I want to burn it which means that it burns down quicker and needs replacing sooner. Not great if you're trying to save money as candles aren't exactly a necessity are they? But there are ways to make a candle last a little bit longer so at least I feel like I'm doing my bit to be thrifty. ;-)Here's a few of the ways I know of....Keep the wick trimmed … [Read more...]
It’s time to get in the picture….
<div align="center"><a href="https://www.frugalfamily.co.uk" title="The Diary of a Frugal Family"><img src="https://www.frugalfamily.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/In-the-picture-link-badge.png" alt="The Diary of a Frugal Family" style="border:none;" /></a></div> I've had a couple of conversations with people this week, both online and in real life, about how a lot of adults (me included) hate having their photos taken. As you'd probably expect, most people I've spoken to have said that it's because they don't like the way they look in a photograph and that a … [Read more...]
My Autumn Bucket list….
I read a lovely post yesterday written by Michelle over at Mummy From the Heart and it got me thinking a little bit.One of the reasons I like the end of the school holidays is because it allows me to get some routine back into our lives and to take the time to do some of the things that I've been planning to do for ages but haven't got around to over the last few months as we've been too busy enjoying the Summer.Michelle's written herself an Autumn Bucket list to help her focus on what she wants to achieve in the next few months and I thought hers was so lovely that I wanted to do the … [Read more...]
Wavy hair in minutes….
When I was younger, all I wanted was to have curly hair and with the magic of my Mam's friend who did home perms, I got the curly hair I was so desperate for. Looking back, it doesn't look as cool as I thought it did at the time:Now fast forward 25 years and Miss Frugal is also a big fan of curly hair although not so much a home perm fan after seeing the photo of my disaster! Not that I'd let her have one anyway - there are much simpler ways to get curly hair these days! She often sleeps with plaits in her hair when she's washed it on a night which gives her wavy hair when she … [Read more...]
My favourite money saving tip….
I have lots of money saving tips - in fact, one of my most popular posts ever is a post that is jam packed with over 50 money saving ideas so when Scottish Friendly asked me to share my favourite tip with you to celebrate the launch of their #ThriftyFamily campaign, I thought it would be a bit of a doddle. But I've been sat here trying to think of just one tip for about twenty minutes now. Will it be to always plan your meals, to shop around for bargains, to make the most of free things or will it be something more specific, like how to save money on your gas and electricity? But when … [Read more...]
The post I wasn’t going to publish – Ten Years ago today….
Ten years ago, when I woke up on September the 4th 2004, I knew it wasn't going to be a great day.I had that feeling, you know the one you get when you know something bad is going to happen.Considering my big brother was very poorly in a local hospice, I suppose I didn't really need psychic powers to tell me it wasn't going to be a good day, did I? I knew what was coming because the day before I'd sneaked back into his room to say goodbye, even though he was unconscious.I told him my secret and left.So when the phone rang the next night, I stared at it instead of … [Read more...]
