Last weekend I saved £60 and got myself a free wireless router in the space of a 5 minute phone call! That's not bad going is it?We've been with the same broadband company for years and never had any real problems, but this weekend our wireless router started to get a bit temperamental so I decided to do what I've been meaning to do for a while and look around to see if I could find a better deal. We're actually really happy with our current broadband provider and we were quite reluctant to leave them, - I don't know the technical ins and outs but I know that Mr Frugal likes to play … [Read more...]
Money Makeover – Get what you’re entitled to….
I know it's been a while since I've done a Money Makeover post - Real life has been very demanding lately! Anyway, it's back this week and I thought it would be a good idea to do a quick round up of a few ways that you can make sure that you're getting what you're entitled to.Lots of people are paying too much council tax - the chances are that you're actually not one of them but if you're one of the potential 400,000 people who are, you can claim any over payments back as well as reduce your future payments. It's definitely worth looking into isn't it?Make sure … [Read more...]
50 Amazing Date night ideas….
It seems to me that the older the kids get, the harder it is for us to spend time together as a couple on our own.I must admit that I always thought it would be the other way round and that as they got older we'd have more 'couple' time together but actually, they go to bed later now which cuts down on time together on a night and when we do plan to go out it can seem a shame not to take them with us if we know it's something we'd enjoy doing as a family. But, we do need to make time together as a couple without the kids and we make sure that this happens at least two nights a week - no … [Read more...]
Thrifty Thursday – Leftover pies and alternative pie toppings….
Who doesn't love a good pie?I've always been put off making pies because (a) I worry about a soggy bottom and (b) I always thought pastry was difficult to master. The soggy bottom thing is probably a fear of Mary Berry jumping out from my kitchen cupboard to examine my pie (impossible I know, not least because there's no space for her by the time I've squeezed every kitchen gadget known to man in there). The difficulty thing I definitely get from my Mam who I always used to think could make great pastry until one day she told me that most of the time she actually used ready … [Read more...]
10 frugal family fun ideas for Spring….
1. Make your own Easter Egg hunt to keep the kids occupied for a few hours over the Easter weekend. We usually hide an Easter Egg as the main prize at the end of the hunt but leave a few little mini eggs with each clue along the way. If you'd prefer to go to an organised Easter Egg hunt, we always have fun at our local Cadburys/National Trust egg hunt which takes place at a lovey National Trust property near us - it cost us £1 last year and we spent a lovely few hours in the grounds of the property searching for clues. At the end we all got an Easter Egg so it was well … [Read more...]
Siblings – March….
I love writing a monthly siblings post - it helps me to focus on the friendship between the kids rather than the inevitable niggly little arguments they can (and do) have about nothing. Now that the weathers on the turn I'm hoping that we'll have lots more outdoorsy fun photos next month but for now, here's this month sibling fun: … [Read more...]
