Anyone with children will know that it's inevitable that they'll be invited to birthday parties of their school friends throughout they year - we had three in one weekend last year! I hate giving children money in a card for a present, even though that's clearly the easiest option but at the same time, to buy a nice little present for them isn't always cheap. So, a few years ago I started to stockpile presents and gifts that I saw on offer throughout the year, especially in the sales at the start of the year. I keep mine in one of those Orla Kiely Bags from Tesco which looks very pretty on … [Read more...]
Get outside and have some family fun….
I know how tempting it is to stay inside snuggled up as this time of year.I know because we spent half of November and December last year in the house for one reason or another - the weather was awful, the nights were dark, one or more of us was ill for weeks on end and really because we couldn't be bothered. That time of year seems to make us all want to stay indoors where it's warm.Lately we're really trying though and we're trying to get back into the habit of spending at least 20 minutes outside every day - no matter the weather! I'd be lying if I said I always loved it and never … [Read more...]
A Holiday Dilemma….
As a family, we love to travel (although Miss Frugal HATES going on planes) and we try to fit in as much as we can but we're obviously limited by budget and more recently, school holidays. In the not so distant future, we actually all have a week off together so we're going to try and plan a cheap Easter Break 2014 but we can't decided what we want to do. Don’t let your children spend a fortune without you knowing….
I bet you read that title and thought to yourself that your child would never do such a thing. Me too!I know that neither of my two would ever intentionally buy something without me knowing, especially using my money but unfortunately it's just not as simple as that these days and you see horror stories in the news where a child has unintentionally managed to spend a small fortune without their parents knowing. In fact, I'm pretty sure most of those parents would have said that their children would never be able to do that too - until they were hit with the bill!Preventing … [Read more...]
