Last year Mr Frugal who is notoriously not great at buying presents surprised me with a really thoughtful gift. It didn't cost much but the fact that it was clear that he'd thought about it so well made it one of my favourite presents, despite it probably being the cheapest. He bought me lots of cupcake making and decorating things - everything from a beautiful kitchen time to some lovely cake cases and sparkly sprinkles. There was even a cupcake recipe book to go with it!How nice is that? You could easily make similar themed versions - a pizza lovers set including a pizza cutter … [Read more...]
Last Minute Gifts – Homemade Sweetie Hamper….
If you're struggling for an idea for a present for the chocolate lover in your life you could always try making them your own homemade sweet hamper. We make one every year for Mr Frugal and it's not only excellent value if you compare ours to the ones you can buy in the shops, it also means that you can pick and choose the chocolates and sweets that you put in it.We've been stashing the chocolate away for the last month or so whenever we've seen a bargain - I think the above little lot cost less than £6.00 and we have extra left from some of the multipacks to eat as a reward for making … [Read more...]

This time of year, more than any other, makes me realise just how lucky I am.I could focus on much loved family and friends who are no longer with us or one of a number of things that are on my mind right now but instead I'm choosing to think about the good things in my life because they massively outweigh the things that make me sad!I have a lovely family with children who amaze me and make me proud every day, a good job which I am lucky enough to only work part time hours at, a lovely home near the sea and some fantastic friends - both on and offline. My view right now….
This is my view right now from where I'm snuggled up on the settee with my hot chocolate and my Christmas magazine and I'm very pleased to say that it's making me feel a lot more festive than I've been feeling lately. I may have said this before (I've been feeling sorry for myself so it's highly likely) but for the last few weeks (actually over a month but who's counting) I've not been well and haven't had the energy or the inclination to do very much at all. So even though we've been doing the obligatory Christmas crafts and decorating, it's felt like a huge effort and I've done it more … [Read more...]
