First of all, I'm tired because I've been up since 4am with a poorly Master Frugal who's had temperatures of up to 40 c today so I apologise in advice if this comes across as a giant moan.I rang the Dr's for some advice this morning and after an interrogation from the receptionist (which is a whole other post) she advised us to pop down to our local A&E with Master Frugal seeing as he was so hot and so very sleepy. He literally could not keep his eyes open and at one point he just sat down on the floor and slept right there. You can imagine how impressed a grumpy sleepy child was … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan – the good weather edition….
You may have noticed that there's an unfamiliar looking yellow ball in the sky giving off heat. That would be the Sun and it's so rarely seen in the UK that our meals this week are mostly cooked in the slow cooker so we can make the most of it while we have it.I can prepare everything on the morning before I go to work and then the dinner can be cooking all day in the slow cooker. That means we can go straight out after school to the park or the beach or wherever and know that the tea will be ready whenever we get in. Voila! Sunday Slow cooker brisketMonday Mini muffin pizzas - … [Read more...]
An explosion in the kitchen….
So, today Miss Frugal decided to make some chocolate cupcakes for her Dad seeing as he's working until 4pm on what looks to be the hottest day we've had so far this year. She made them herself with no help from me and she couldn't wait to get them iced so they'd be ready for him when he came in from work. She broke the chocolate into pieces in a bowl and popped it into the microwave as we normally do to melt it.It was going well until the microwave made a few crackly noises, sparked a bit and then made a rather loud bang! We're now left with an unpleasant smell, what's left of the … [Read more...]
Saturday is Caption Day – the Doctor Who nightmare edition….
I'll start by saying that I'm really not that big a fan of Doctor Who. I just don't see what the fuss is all about if I'm honest but the rest of my family are huge Doctor Who fans so I tolerate it for them. Just.So you can imagine my disappointment when we went to Liverpool last week and a poster we saw on the train advertising some sort of Doctor Who exhibit at Spaceport put paid to my plans of wandering round the shops and Albert Dock. Instead I ended up ferrying across the Mersey on a very cold windy day to get to this place so we could look at Daleks and Cyberman. Whoo Hoo.Like … [Read more...]
80 ideas for your bored jar….
Do you have a Bored Jar?I've seen a few posts lately (like this one from Jen) about people making 'I'm bored' jars filled with ideas that are randomly chosen whenever anyone mentions the dreaded bored word and a quick search on Pinterest tells me that the makeshift jam jar filled with bits of folded paper is woefully inadequate* - just have a look at this little lot.(*only joking, it's the ideas that count not the presentation although there are some works of art on there aren't there?)We decided to update our I'm bored jar and make our own version using coloured lolly … [Read more...]
Planning the best Summer Holidays ever – part one….
We're on Summer Holiday countdown here at the moment, even though we still have a couple of weeks to go yet.I'm not sure who's more excited about the holidays this year. The kids because they have six long weeks of fun stretching ahead of them or me because this year I actually have three weeks off with them - two near the start and one at the end.I've just read a post about the Free Range Summer that Jen's planning for her two boys this year and it's made me start thinking about what we're going to be doing ourselves.I'm a planner so I like to know what we're going to be doing … [Read more...]
