Today is the 25th Anniversary of Comic Relief.I can't even begin to guess how much good they've done in the last 25 years - how many lives they've changed for the better and how many children they've made smile. To celebrate the anniversary, Comic Relief are celebrating the progress of Africa and the difference that the money they've raised has made to people. #Teamhonk, made up of Annie from Mammasaurus, Tanya from Mummy Barrow and Penny from Alexander Residence are visiting four projects in Ghana on the 4th and the 5th February to see for themselves the difference Red Nose Day money … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan – the everyone seems to be poorly again edition….
I knew it was too good to be true.We managed almost a full week last week with not a cough, sneeze, ache or pain to be seen - until Saturday afternoon when poor Master Frugal announced he didn't feel very well and didn't feel like going out as we'd planned. He was shortly followed by his big sister and they spent the rest of the weekend snuggled in their pyjamas watching DVDs and playing board games. If it's anything like the last couple of times they've been ill since Christmas, they've got over the actual symptoms of the cold itself within a couple of days but they've had no energy … [Read more...]
Our week in pictures – week 5….
Another fun but busy week here....Dilemma in the Stationery aisle - they each had £1 each to spend and they both spent what seems like forever choosing what they wanted. We ended up with a lovely notebook for Miss Frugal and a dog pencil sharpener for Master Frugal (don't even ask where you have to stick the pencil to sharpen it). Trampoline bouncing is even more fun in the cold apparently! Mint choc chip cupcakes are just Mmmmmmmmm Shopping break. Because it's really hard following your brother around ToysRus choosing what to spend his pocket money on. Especially when you … [Read more...]
Cheap Family and Friends Railcard….
We love travelling on the train when we go for days out. I find it a much more relaxing way to travel and we all enjoy the journey much more - especially me as I often put my headphones in and relax, leaving Mr Frugal in charge of the in-train entertainment. It does work out good value for money most of the time as you don't have to pay for petrol or parking but it's even better value if you have a Railcard. We have a Family and Friends Railcard which has saved us a fortune over the last couple of years and it easily paid for itself when we booked our first journey using it.You can … [Read more...]
The long awaited pulled pork recipe….
Learning to cook slow cooker pulled pork was one of my News Years Resolutions as we'd been dying to try it for ages.We saw a giant version on Man Vs Food (how on earth does he eat as much as he does) before Christmas and it looked delicious so we knew we wanted to try it but I thought it would be really complicated to make. Thanks to the magic of Google, I've found lots of different recipes and ways to make it - marinade this, rub that, cook in the smoker, add this spice and that spice. All of which I'm sure would be delicious but not my style at all as I like our meals to be quick and … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan – the comfort food week….
Why is it on cold dark nights like we're having at the minute, when you just want to come home and snuggle on the settee with a mug of hot chocolate, we seem to have more planned than usual? Answers on the back of a postcard please! Another busy week coming up this week for us so if we have any hopes of eating properly, the slow cooker is going to be earning it's keep over the next few days. Sunday - We finally got around to trying the pulled pork recipe this week and it was totally worth the wait! I'll be blogging the recipe later in the week when the new recipe linky that I'll be running … [Read more...]
