Christmas tree chocolates usually cost between two and three pounds for eight (sometimes just six) but you can make your own for much less and it only takes a few minutes to do.All you need are some wrapped sweets or chocolates, some sellotape and some thread (or Christmas tree lametta).I *borrowed* a few sweets from my friends box of Cadbury's roses and bought a few of those Freddo bars from the shop to make ours with. The Elf ones with popping candy would have been better but they had none in so we settled for these ones!Just sellotape your thread to the chocolates and … [Read more...]
Cupcake Sunday – The best chocolate butter-cream you’ll every try and Reindeer cupcakes….
A couple of weeks ago it was Mr Frugal's birthday and as he was at work all day, I decided to make him a birthday cake ready for when he got in from work. Not just any chocolate cake though, I wanted to make him the best chocolate cake he'd ever had - I'm nothing if not ambitious you know! I made a normal 2 layer chocolate sponge cake using this recipe (except I left the choc chips out). I sandwiched the layers together with cherry jam and covered it in the most amazing chocolate buttercream you've ever tasted. Next up I covered it with Minstrels and Maltesers and added a candle and Voila … [Read more...]
A new skill for life….
I've just discovered a disturbing fact about Miss Frugal! She can make herself cry convincingly - in any situation - in less than 20 seconds! This newly discovered talent does worry me a little as I'm never going to know if she's genuinely upset about something or if she's just faking it. But at the same time, I'm secretly a little proud having just watched her in action. She's just done it when her Dad said we might be too busy to take her ice skating at the weekend. Her eyes welled up and her bottom lip shook as she explained that it was OK if we didn't take her, she understood … [Read more...]
Contact Santa for free….
Even though Miss Frugal is no longer a believer, she's been really good helping us keep the magic of Santa alive for her brother. Which means that I get at least one extra year of both of them taking part in all of our Santa traditions ;-)We've started our festive season by writing our letters to Santa - currently hanging on the tree in our special felt envelopes addressed to Santa but we will be sending them off to Santa in the next couple of days because he probably won't have time to pop by our house before the big day to see what we've asked for!We use the Royal Mail Santa … [Read more...]

Another busy week this week - we have something planned for every night and I'm shattered just thinking about it! Meals are going to have to even quicker and easier so we can fit them in ;-)Monday - Filled Yorkshire puddings (see below).Tuesday - I'm out for tea with my friends for work as someone's leaving this week and seeing as Mr Frugal's at work, I'll be taking the kids with me. I'll feed them a quick tea of fish fingers, chips and peas before we go and let them have the pick of the desert menu while we eat I think as there's nothing on the menu that they'll go for.Wednesday … [Read more...]
Cupcake Sunday – Chocolate Baileys Cupcakes….
Baileys Irish Cream + Chocolate + Cake = AWESOME These are my favourite cupcakes since I started Cupcake Sunday a couple of months ago. I'm guessing you could make them with Tia Maria aswell as I *think* that's quite like Baileys but I've never had it so can't say for sure! For the cupcakes: 150g butter or margarine 150g sugar 3 eggs 135g self raising flour 35g cocoa powder 80ml BaileysCream the sugar and the butter together. Beat in the eggs and Baileys. Sieve together the flour and cocoa powder and fold it into the cake mixture. Spoon into your cupcake cases and cook … [Read more...]
