This year Miss Frugal has decided that she doesn't want to wear a traditional Halloween costume - she'd much rather have a pretty one! I've explained to her that the whole point of a Halloween costume is to wear a spooky costume but she's not having any of it.She looks, in her own words, like a rainbow has thrown up on her!Even Master Frugal isn't that bothered this year, I had to twist his arm to get him to wear a mask let alone a full costume! … [Read more...]
How much do you spend on your children at Christmas….
It's November tomorrow so I feel justified in asking you all just how much you spend on your children for Christmas. After all, the big day is only 54 days away. How much do you hate me for reminding you of that right now?I've been gradually doing my Christmas shopping for months now and I've managed to get a LOT for what I've actually spent. I've bought things in the Tesco 2 for 1 sale (ends today I think) and got some great bargains in the Sainsbury's half price toy sale last week.I've also bought some things off eBay and from the car boot sale. Top of Master Frugal's list was … [Read more...]
Getting Active….
I try to encourage the kids to play outside as much as possible - in all weathers. The street we live on is quiet enough and they do enjoy scooting up and down the street on their scooters but with the nights drawing in I don't like them to go too far so it gets a bit boring for them. This is why I try and make our garden somewhere that they're happy to play and that their friends will enjoy playing in too. We've bought lots of things for them to play with - everything from footballs to cricket bats and from Swingball to a croquet set! The best thing by far that we have at the minute … [Read more...]
Mummy Mugshot – Me as a child….
I love the idea of the Mummy Mugshot linky over at life, love and living with boys.I have literally thousands of pictures stored on my computer and on various memory sticks around the house and I would say that until recently, there were probably less than 20 (if that) that have me in the same picture as the kids. I've started to take more photos with me in them lately though - I want to be a part of the memories that we make every day and not just the person behind the camera all the time. When I look at a picture of me, I see someone who needs to lose weight, get a haircut and wear … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Toad in the hole….
I'm loving that it's half term this week and I'm off work until Thursday which means I not only have time to spend with the kids, I also have the luxury of having enough time to plan and make our meals without having to stress about who needs to be where and on what day. I'm also enjoying the weather we're having at the moment because I get to feel smug that we're all warm and snuggly inside with no plans while other people are rushing about in the cold! This week we've been asked by Asda to try out their 3 for £10 fresh meat and fish range so all meats and fish featured in the menu can be … [Read more...]
Cupcake Sunday – Chocolate Orange Cupcakes….
in store) and a Spider cupcake holder (£1.50 in store), we decided to dedicate this week's Cupcake Sunday to Halloween..I've been wanting to make some chocolate orange cupcakes for a while and the idea of bright orange icing seemed to fit with Halloween so we went with that - that and the fact that I was given a bar of dark chocolate with orange pieces in it earlier in the week and every time I go in the kitchen it shouts me and begs me to eat it all ;-)Chocolate Orange Cupcakes 80g plain flour 20g cocoa 175g caster sugar 1 tsp baking power 50g butter / margarine 50g chocolate - … [Read more...]
