This year we decided to make a Christmassy Gingerbread House, largely because Miss Frugal saw a beautiful one in the school raffle and misguidedly thought that we could make one that looked just as good! It didn't work out quite as planned but it looks presentable so I thought I'd share how to make one with you so you can make your very own....To make the Gingerbread you need: 350g plain flour 175g brown sugar 100g butter 1 egg 5 tablespoons of golden syrup 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 2 teaspoons of ginger (we used more because we love the smell of the ginger)Add the flour, … [Read more...]
What I’ve learned this week….
I've learned that I must be more specific when giving instructions!I took Buddy for his pre-Christmas cut this week and asked the lady to cut him shorter than last time as he's taken to rolling around in the mud which is a nightmare to get out of his fluffy coat. I left him in the shop blissfully unaware that what the lady actually thought I'd said was 'Please shave all the hair of my cute fluffy puppy'.This is the photo I took last time he had a hair cut....This is him now... He's now walking round with an air of slight embarrassment about him and is … [Read more...]
To wrap or not to wrap….
The only downside that I can think of to Christmas is wrapping presents - I absolutely hate it. You can always tell which is my gift in a Secret Santa present line up - it's the one with no smooth edges or corners, bits of sellotape hanging off it and the odd tear in the wrapping paper.I just about manage to get by with wrapping my family and friend's presents (with a lot of help from the gift bags I save throughout the year) and making them look half way presentable but tackling the kids presents is my worst nightmare. I do have my own little system to make it as easy as possible for … [Read more...]
Snow Flavoured Ice Cream (That’s ice cream made out of actual snow)….
I'm so sick of this snow but I have to admit that there's something very magical about if from a kids point of view, especially at this time of year. They never seem to tire of playing in it and I've never made so much hot chocolate in my life!Seeing as we're stuck in the house today, we decided to have a Snow day and do lots of snow related things (I know, we live a very exciting life don't we?). We started the day snuggled up on the settee with our quilts watching Snow Buddies which is actually quite good for a film starring five talking dogs and then, after a quick Google for other … [Read more...]
The funniest thing you’ll see this Christmas….
Make your own for free at Elf Yourself - All you do is upload a picture of yourself and choose which style dancing you want to do.... I guarantee you will have laugh so much that your sides will hurt, my two had tears rolling down their faces when they watched it!I'd love to see yours if you do have a go, leave a comment to let me know and I'll pop over and have a look ;-) … [Read more...]
How to have a Frugal Christmas – Make your own chocolate tree decorations….
A Christmas Tree isn't a Christmas Tree without some chocolatey treats hanging on it is it? But I begrudge paying £2+ for six little chocolate shapes when I know that I can make my own cheaper (and bigger) versions. So, this afternoon I bought 10 Cadburys Magical Elves chocolate bars and sellotaped a loop of Christmas tree lametta to the back of it and voila, a yummy chocolate decoration was born ;-)I bought the Magical Elves bars because they were only 5 for £1 (and possibly because they're purple and match my tree) but any small chocolate bar or wrapped sweets would be fine and you … [Read more...]
