I've seen those signs you get for the back of your car that say 'Mum's Taxi' but I never thought that I'd need one myself ;-) We have activities every night of the week at the moment!I think I'm over compensating for the fact that until recently the kids didn't really join in with many after school activities. I used to work 8.30am - 5.45pm four days a week so I was never at home to take them but since I reduced my hours at work to spend more time with them, we've signed up for everything that takes their fancy and the quality time I had envisaged us having together is mostly spent in the … [Read more...]
Operation Makeover: I found my first project….
Operation Makeover is now officially underway and seeing as I've found some lovely bargains this week, I though I'd share them with you as part of Magpie Monday ;-)I managed to find a new first project (after losing out on the lovely sideboard I won on ebay last week) and I think it's going to look brilliant when it's done. I'm going to sand it all down as I don't really like dark wood and then paint it in a creamy colour I think. I might even change the handles on it if I'm feeling really adventurous. Inspired by Jen, I went on a charity shop hunt for a glass cake stand and was … [Read more...]
How to be be a Cheap Date….
Seeing as it's Valentines day, I wanted to share the different ways that we enjoy time together as a couple without breaking the bank. I've learned that we don't need to spend a fortune to enjoy our together time and our relationship is definitely better because of the effort that we put into it. Our Wedding Cake Topper Some websites say the best ways to spend time together on the cheap are to go for walks together or have a nice romantic picnic - neither of which sound romatic or fun to me! I even read somewhere that you should give each other foot massages but I can't think of … [Read more...]
America Day….
I've been trying to think of ways to teach the kids about other countries and cultures whilst having as much fun as possible. Both of them have a huge map of the word on their walls and they're at the age now where they're relly interested in what other children around the world do.The first country they wanted to learn about was America so we decided to have a themed America Day....I showed them America on their maps and we compared it to the size of the UK and then we had fun making our own little Stars and Stripes flags and sticking them on to cocktail sticks. We also tried to … [Read more...]
Homemade Honey Cake….
Last week we were lucky to receive some lovely honey from Rowse Honey, it came in a lovely box with some gorgeous honey cupcakes which only just lasted long enough for me to take a photo....The honey lasted slightly longer though, long enough for us to make a lovely honey cake yesterday afternoon in fact. Honey cake is our favourite type of cake to make - the shove it all in a bowl and mix type! The end results were lovely and it's actually a very grown up kind of cake (unless you spread chocolate spread on it like we did ;-)Honey Cake100g/4 oz butter or margarine 2 tbsp … [Read more...]
Let the Shabby Chicness Begin….
One of my New Years Resolutions was to start to decorate my house to turn it from the neutral new build that it currently is into a lovely home for my family. My taste seems to have changed so much since I had the kids and I've gone from wanting everything matching and perfect to wanting a much more relaxed shabby chic style. I'm so pleased that the lovely Jen from the Madhouse popped round the other night because she completely gets what style I'm going for and has given me some great ideas. I had tried to explain what I wanted to Mr Frugal and he just didn't get it. I ended up … [Read more...]
