I’d love to be a child again….
I've just watched Miss Frugal make a new friend and it's made me think how much easier life was as a child. We only have a small fence between us and the house out the back of us as their house has only just been finished and Miss Frugal noticed a little girl in the garden from her bedroom window. She came downstairs, put her shoes and coat on and then went outside and pretended to be playing a really interesting game with her scooter. The little girl got closer and closer to the fence and after about five minutes she asked Miss Frugal what she was doing, Miss Frugal replied … [Read more...]
Oven Baked Risotto: The Leftover Version….
It's ok - I'm not going to post a different version of the oven baked risotto recipe each week but I did want to share this one with you.Miss Frugal wanted risotto for tea but I didn't have any onion or chicken is so we decided to make a leftover version by frying some mushrooms and leeks with some leftover sausages and sticking that in the casserole dish with the rice and chicken stock. Et Voila, gorgeous … [Read more...]
Birthday Party Blues….
Master Frugal is much happier at school lately, When I picked him up from school today, his teacher pulled me to one side and said that he is more like his old self now - he's more sure of himself and is joining in with things a lot more. I am so relieved because even though I know that it can be a big shock to some youngsters moving from nursery to full time school, I hated to think that he wasn't happy at school. It's his fifth birthday in a couple of weeks, I've booked him a birthday party at the Wacky Warehouse. I was going to have a nice frugal … [Read more...]
Children and Money….
We all want our children to grow up knowing the value of money and we all have different ways of helping them to acheive this. I've read few posts on this recently, including a really interesting post over at The Madhouse about how Mummy Mad teaches her two the value of money and it's really got me thinking. At the moment Miss Frugal gets £2.00 a week pocket money in exchange for sorting the recycling out each night and keeping our shoe cupboard tidy. She takes pride in these jobs as they are 'her jobs' and looks forward to getting her money every Saturday. She then puts it into one of … [Read more...]
The Barbecue Chicken Experiment….
Due to the boringness of my weekly meal plans, I set myself a bit of a meal plan challenge last week which involved me cooking a different meal each night. Thursday's new meal was barbecue chicken but Mr Frugal and I disagreed on how to make it so we ended up making two different versions and having a bit of a taste test at the end....My version was a chicken breast with barbecue sauce spread on top, wrapped in bacon and sprinkled with cheese:Mr Frugal's was a typical man mess:He wrapped his chicken in bacon and poured barbecue sauce all over it before … [Read more...]
