We've just been to Asda to get Miss Frugal's friend a birthday present fortonight's sleepover and on the way out we saw an advert for Lurpak buttersayingPride - You won't find it in a ready mealI love it, it sums up one of the reasons I love cooking things from scratch for my family, the satisfaction I feel when we all sit down to a meal that I have made. My meals are basic at the moment but I am enjoying cooking now and I'm starting to have more confidence in the kitchen. The other reason, which is my main motivation for learning to cook is the amount of money that I save. If I plan what we … [Read more...]
Home made flapjacks….
As the lovely people from Green and Blacks sent me some cooking chocolate to use, it would have been rude not to use it to make something yummy lol.We decided to make some flapjacks because Miss Frugal loves them but the ones she likes with the chocolate topping on are 89p in the shop round the corner.Apart from the chocolate, we had everything else in so they were surprisingly cheap to make.Ingredients80g brown sugar100g butter or margarine250g oats (we used the value porridge oats leftover from our reindeer dust at Christmas)2 tablespoons golden syrupApprox 100g bar of chocolate (we used 2/3 … [Read more...]
Look what the Postman brought me….
I have mixed feelings about the delivery I got this morning from those lovely people at Green and Blacks Chocolate. It's OK, I'm not giving up on my diet, just postponing it until Monday ;-) … [Read more...]
Valentines Day has come early….
It's like Valentines day in the Frugal house today, it started when we popped to Morrison's after school and Miss Frugal saw some of those gingerbread hearts that came in a pack with pink icing and pink glittery stuff, the ones you decorate yourself. She asked me if she could get them for her boyfriends (note the plural there!) and because I thought it was really cute I let her get them, extremely un-frugal of me at £1.79 for five biscuits!Anyway we got them home and she has carefully decorated each one with a different boys name, apparently Jack, Kieran, James, Damien and Rebecca (don't ask … [Read more...]
World Cancer Day….
The 4th of February marks World Cancer Day. This is a subject that is very close to my heart after losing both my brother and my mother to cancer, so I wanted to let you all know to raise a bit of awareness.I used to think that Cancer was something that affected other people and other families but in 2002 when I was in hospital having Miss Frugal, my brother found out that he had mouth cancer. What followed was a two year battle against the disease that finally defeated him in September 2004. It was heartbreaking to see and I thought I would never feel that sort of pain again but then in the … [Read more...]

To try out the aprons that we made yesterday we just made some yummy golden syrup biscuits. When I say we, I mean me, Miss Frugal and Baby Isabella (the doll!) so you can imagine how long it took us.
