I feel so full.We have just had toad in the hole for tea with mini roasties, mash, carrots, broccoli and gravy. It was gorgeous and the kids both cleared their plates (which doesn't happen often believe me). In our pre-frugal days we would have just ordered a take away on a Saturday night and I can honestly say that we all enjoyed our tea tonight more than any take away.To make the mini roasties, I chop up some potatoes into small chucks and par boil them for about five minutes. Then I drain them and put them back in the empty pan, I season them and then drizzle them with a healthy amount … [Read more...]
Make a Wish Book….
I hope the snow doesn't last much longer - I am running out of things to keep the kids entertained....I made a 'Wish Book' with Miss Frugal today (Master Frugal was quite happy on the Wii). We cut out about 12 circles out of coloured card and Miss Frugal wrote a different wish on each of them - all things that she wants to do or places that she wants to go to.She spent ages thinking about each wish and carefully wrote each one down. After we had done about 10 we punched a hole in each one and tied them together with some ribbon. Some of the things she wrote down were:I would like to go … [Read more...]

Our version of a jammy microwave sponge pudding was one of the first recipes that Miss Frugal ever learned to make … [Read more...]
Dear School….
Dear Schoolthis is just a brief note to thank you for letting me know so promptly that you had decided to close the school this morning due to adverse weather conditions.I very much appreciated the telephone call 55 minutes after I had dropped the children off at the school breakfast club and had been on a bus journey to the train station, followed by a train journey and a walk to work through the 6inch thick snow.It was good of you to let me know that my children were the only two children at school and that you supposed someone could stay with them until I was able to get back to collect … [Read more...]
Our snowman has left home….
Why on earth would some try and steal my snowman! It wasn't exactly a work of art, it's eyes and buttons had fallen off and it was looking a bit past it's best but still someone decided to pick it up and carry it down the road where they decided to rehome him in someone else's garden - unharmed and in one piece!Bizarre. On the plus side, at least the snow is falling thick and fast again so we'll be able to build another one this weekend, lets just hope that he doesn't run away from home again. … [Read more...]
