This is my menu plan for the week. I usually do my weeks plan on a Friday ready for shopping on a Saturday but I am a bit late this week as we have had a houseguest staying with us this week. I try and get Miss Frugal to do it with me to help her with her writing and to have fun in the kitchen with her as I really want to encourage her to learn to cook and to enjoy being in the kitchen with me. Budget Bedroom….
I have finished Miss Frugal's bedroom now and I am so pleased with how its turned out, my main concern about living frugally was that I didn't want the kids to miss out. If anything the decision to change the way that we lived was more to do with freeing up more money and time to do things with the kids.The room is very girly and is probably to pink and princessy for most people's taste but for a six year old girl, it's 'absolutely awesome' which she assures me is as good as it gets....The bed was a complete bargain (see here) but didn't come with the drapes so I went to our local fabric store … [Read more...]
Baking Day….
Well its absolutely pouring down here this morning so we are going to bake some biscuits and cakes. I have stacks of cookbooks but I can't find my Bero book that I usually use for my biscuit recipe so I just googled 'kids biscuit recipe' and found the simplest recipe ever:175g/6oz Plain Flour100g/4oz Butter or Margarine50g/2oz Caster SugarPre-heat oven to 150°C/300°F Gas Mark 2Cream the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy and then stir in the flour.Knead the dough together until it forms a ball, if the dough is a bit sticky, just add some more flour to the mixture.Next, … [Read more...]
Memory Books….

Yorkshire Puddings….
Sunday Dinner wouldn't be Sunday Dinner without Yorkshire puds but no matter what I try I can't seem to get those huge yummy looking ones that you see on the TV!The recipe that I use is 100g of plain flour, 1/2 pint milk and 2 eggs. I heat the oven to the hottest temperature and then preheat the oil in my pudding tins. I do everything that the TV chef's say but.....They just don't work out right. Homemade book update….
So much for tomorrow's activity of making books.... Little Miss frugal just caught sight of the instruction video and 'just had' to make her book tonight....She also didn't like my suggestion about the book being about what we had done in the summer holidays and much preferred to make hers about a princess who lived on the beach. Excuse the spellings, she is only six.... And the reason that she has a mood on in the last pictures is that she thinks that she drew 'The End' too big and didn't want me to take a photo of that bit.
