I have just got back from taking little Miss Frugal to a birthday party, it was in a church hall and had an all singing, all dancing, bubble blowing, light flashing disco there. The kids loved it!When they played 'Is this the way to Amarillo' all 25 kids stopped running about like mad freaks, got into a line and started doing exactly the same dance. Very weird, like a scene out a body snatcher movie!!! Turns out that this is their new song for wake and shake on a morning at school! That's a relief. The party was fantastic though, it was fancy dress and the parents had hired a church hall and a … [Read more...]
Quidco….
It just occurred to me that in my 'Making my budget better' post below, I went on about Quidco but a lot of people might not have heard of Quidco or know how it works so I thought I should let you know!About a year ago now, I signed up to a cashback website called Quidco and I have earned about £600 so far. I love Quidco and I am sure that you will too.Basically, Quidco is a website who pay you cash back on your online spending. The amount that you will earn varies depending on how much you are spending, the product and the company. They work with hundreds, if not thousands of … [Read more...]
Two new additions to our family….
After months of begging and pleading and promising that they will take full responsibility for them, I couldn't take anymore and I caved in. We now have two baby guinea pigs called Miley and Lightning. We bought them from Bunny land, just outside of Whitby. Now I've never been there before but I imagined it to be like a little bunny heaven, with bunnies and guinea pigs all frolicking about freely in a green field with fluffy white clouds in the clear blue skies above them. I know that's a bit far fetched, its just the image that I had in my mind before we went. In reality its in the garden of a … [Read more...]
#CookingWithKids – Super Easy Jammy Buns….
We've had a baking afternoon today in an effort to keep the kids entertained while the rain continues outside! We decided to make jammy buns first of all because (a) they're super easy to make, (b) they're delicious and (c) they're super easy to make. ;-) Jammy buns You need: 8 oz self raising flour 4 oz sugar 3 oz butter or margarine a little bit of milk to mix jam* Rub the butter into the flour until it looks a bit like breadcrumbs.* Add the sugar and mix it in.* Mix it together with a spoonful of milk at a time until the mixture looks like a stiff dough.* Roll the … [Read more...]
Recipe for home made play dough….
The six weeks holiday are here again and for those people with kids, you'll understand my dilemma with how to keep them occupied for the next month or so.My first idea is home made play dough, which should keep them quiet for a couple of hours. I always find it keeps them quieter if we have a theme when we are playing with play dough, like a shop and all the things we make go in the shop. Then when they're bored with making things they can play shops with the things that they have made. Homemade Play Dough Recipe 2 cups water 1 cup salt food colouring 4 tsp. cream of tartar (you can … [Read more...]
Homemade ice lolly recipes (for kids and for grown ups)….
Its so hot outside isn’t it?Normally in this weather we spend a fortune on ice creams and ice lollies for the kids but I've decided that this summer we'll make our own ice lollies. This should not only save a fortune but our own lollies will be much healthier (in theory ;-)).Homemade Ice Lolly Ideas for the kids Not an ice lolly as such but you could freeze bananas, either in or out of their skins. Try freezing some Angel delight in lolly moulds, as we've done in the rocket lolly moulds above. You can freeze those little fromage frais pots, pop a lolly stick in the pot before you … [Read more...]
