We're off on holiday in a couple of weeks so I'm focusing on two things - saving money and losing weight! To help me with both of these, I've been taking Slimming World friendly packed lunches to work and because I'm so please with myself for avoiding soggy sandwiches all week I thought I'd share my week's worth of Slimming World friendly packed lunches. Day 1 - Lime and Chilli cous cous with spinach, chicken and sun dried tomatoes (2 syns for the sun dried tomatoes)I don't measure when I make cous cous, I just add how much I want to a bowl, add the flavour and pour enough boiling … [Read more...]

The Gardens at Wynyard Hall in the Spring….
Last weekend we decided to leave the kids at home in bed for a cheeky Sunday morning lie in and head to Wynyard Hall Gardens to have a look around as we keep hearing about how they're a lovely place to spend a few hours.I had a look on the website before we set off and found that there's lots to do there - there's a Walled Garden, a Marquee Garden, an Edible Garden, a Victorian-inspired Glasshouse, a little Farm Shop and a Café serving yummy looking homemade cake. I think it was the cake that swung it for Mr Frugal as he's not really a wander around a garden kind of guy - he says it … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {12th May 2017}….
1) Oh my goodness - I grew something that we could eat! OK, they're only spring onions but it's a start.2) Mr Frugal and I visited the gardens at Wynyard Hall last weekend and didn't buy a slice of cake. Not particularly frugal on the face of it but the promise of cake was the main reason that I was able to persuade Mr Frugal to come along. After our walk around the gardens we headed to the cafe only to find the cake was super expensive and not only that, the slices looked teeny. We drooled over the delicious looking cakes and bakes for a few minutes and then managed to walk … [Read more...]
12 Frugal Habits to Live By….
I've been reading a bit about Dave Ramsay's 7 baby steps to financial peace and it makes a lot of sense to me.Step One is to set up an emergency fund of £1000 which we've been trying to do for a good year now but every time we get close, something happens that means we need to dip into our fund. We've had car breakdowns and repairs, oven fires, broken beds and all sorts of other things that have wiped out what we've saved so far. We're back down to zero now but hopefully we can get there one of these days and then we can move on to Step Two (which we're working on already at the same … [Read more...]
What we’re eating this week {08 May 2017}….
Last week was the first week in ages that I shared my meal plan with you on this blog instead of hiding it away on my meal planning blog.I shared it here for a couple of reasons - the first one is because I'm a little embarrassed by how neglected my poor little meal planning blog is at the moment but the main reason is because this month I wanted to have a BIG focus on our meal planning.I almost always write a meal plan for the week but lately I haven't been spending as much time on it as I used to so meal planning of late has consisted of me hurriedly scribbling five meals down on a … [Read more...]
