Have you ever wondered how you could upcycle an empty ice cream carton to make it into something pretty and useful?I'd imagine your answer is no to that question but now that I've put the question into your mind I'm going to answer it for you by showing you exactly how you can upcycle an empty ice cream carton and turn it into either a git box or a cute little storage box for your bits and bobs.First of all you need some paint that will work on the material of your ice cream carton - I use the Dulux Made by Me paint which I bought from the car boot sale not long ago.I … [Read more...]

Why our trip to New York didn’t go according to plan….
Very early last Thursday morning, Miss Frugal and I set off on our long awaited adventure to New York. We'd spent months researching what we wanted to do and saving up to be able to afford to do it all and we'd pretty much scheduled the majority of our time while we were there to make sure we didn't miss a thing. We were so well organised that we knew exactly what we were going to be doing each day, how to get there, how much it would cost, what was nearby and even where we would be eating! It was all detailed in our trusty New York notebook that we'd been scribbling in since we booked our … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {7th April 2017}….
By the time you read this I'll be in New York with Miss Frugal enjoying (hopefully) our long awaited holiday so it's probably not going to come as a huge surprise that today's post is New York themed with each of my five frugal things having something to do with our trip.1) First up we have toiletries! Miss Frugal wanted to go and buy some of the cute little travel sized bottles of everything from deodorant to hair spray and from shampoo to toothpaste but they seemed very expensive compared to their larger sized versions. To give you an idea of what I mean, Sure deodorant is £1.20 for a … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {17 March 2017}….
1) There's not long until Miss Frugal and I head off to New York and the other day I was having a quick double check of our flight times and I noticed that there was an option to register an British Airways Executive Club card to collect some Avios points on our booking. I'd noticed this before but didn't do anything as we're not exactly frequent flyers but I just thought I'd have a look into it to see if the points were actually worth anything to us. Surprisingly, it totally was worth registering as the points we earned from our booking can be spent on-board with BA for food and drinks so … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10 March 2017}….
1) With our trip to New York fast approaching Miss Frugal has been wanting to watch more and more YouTube videos about everything from the flight to the sights and the food to the shopping. I'm taking advantage of every minute she wants to spend with me because I know that, at 14, it might not last too much longer so we've been watching YouTube instead of reading guidebooks like I remember doing about places we were travelling too when I was younger. Not only are we having fun spending time together watching them, we're saving money on guidebooks (it's OK, that's not the frugal link to this … [Read more...]
70 Frugal and Fun Spring Activities to do with the kids….
I know we've been lucky to have had quite a mild Winter this year but I'm still glad to see the return of the blue skies and the sunshine that we're seeing at the moment.I'm going to ignore that fact though and focus on the fact that it's March, the skies are blue and Spring is on it's way. Which means that we can plan in more outdoor fun.... Clear a section of the garden and plan some vegetables (or even some herbs) to grow together and when they're ready to harvest, cook them together. Go for a picnic at the park. Fly a kite. Climb trees. When you see a rainbow, go on a family … [Read more...]
