September's my least favourite month of the year to be honest as it's the anniversary of when my brother died and the anniversary of when my Mam found out just how ill she was the year later. I've also struggled with going back to work this month after being off for most of the Summer ill and we've had all of the usual stress of going back to school and the various bugs and dramas that come with it.So, all in all, it's been a funny old month with more than it's fair share of lows but I think the lows have made us spend more time together and enjoy each other's company more than … [Read more...]

The Festival of Thrift 2016….
Last weekend was our annual family trip to the Festival of Thrift which is an amazing festival held in the North East every September all about living sustainably with style which is right up my street. We go to the Festival of Thrift every year and I've always had an amazing day so I was really looking forward to visiting again although this year I didn't book into any of the classes or workshops as I wasn't sure if I'd be up to joining in with them when they were released over the Summer. I totally wished I had booked a couple though as the jam making and upcycling ones looked like so … [Read more...]
Marvellous Meatball Marinara….
One of my missions for this month is to try and use up some of the food in the freezer as my lack of meal planning recently has meant that a lot of the bargains I've been buying with good intentions from the reduced section in the supermarket have been going straight in the freezer and simply staying there. This means I have a freezer full of food and not much room left for any more bargains!I spotted a couple of packets of sausages in there along with a big batch of my homemade tomato sauce so I thought I'd have a go at making meatball marinara for tea yesterday afternoon. I'm not usually a … [Read more...]
Easy Packed Lunch Pizza Swirls…. #PowerofFrozen
I don't know where I'd be without my freezer and the second freezer that I bought has probably paid for itself twice over in the short time we've had it as it's given me space to not only store reduced food bargains that I find but also to build up a bit of a freezer storecupboard. The recipe I'm sharing today for Pizza Swirls is made using a lot of my freezer storecupboard ingredients so before I share the recipe, I thought you might like to hear a bit about some of the things I keep in my storecupboard freezer drawer.First up, I have a stock of ready made pastry. I love ready rolled … [Read more...]

With less than a week left of the Summer Holidays we're trying to squeeze as much fun out of the time we have left before the kids are back at school and I'm back at work.Yesterday was an amazing day which was filled with fun from the moment the kids woke up to homemade waffles for breakfast to the amazing rainbow fritters they made us all for tea with a trip to the local beach and paddling pool in between the two lovely meals. The fritters were mixed by Master Frugal and cooked by his big sister which meant that all I had I had to do was sit at the dining room table and enjoy their … [Read more...]
5 of my favourite warming soup recipes….
I think I must have made soup at least twice a week every single week since I got my soup maker last Christmas and I've tried out so many soup recipes that I can't even remember most of them. Soup's cheap and easy to make, it's healthy and it's freezes really well, it often tastes even better when you reheat it and it's brilliant to pop in a flask for lunches at work - what's not to love about soup!So to start the week off, I've decided to have a little soup celebration and share six of my absolute favourite soup recipes with you starting with my absolute most favourite soup - simple leek … [Read more...]
