It’s now officially half term which means that ‘Operation: Family Fun Half Term’ is officially underway. (By the way, that’s the kids name not mine – I’m geeky but not that geeky lol)
We’ve got loads of activities planned for this week and I’ve managed to put in a few days holiday from work so I’m looking forward to spending lots of time together….
I asked the kids this morning what they wanted to do today and Master Frugal asked if he could do some baking with me, which was fine as I love baking with both of them but he likes to do everything himself so I try and choose really simple recipes. He’s made pizzas with me in the past so we thought we would make some little pizza whirls (inspired by the yummy cinammon buns we made last night).
The recipe for the Pizza Base we usually use is here but today we cheated used a packet mix that we bought for about 30p. All you do is add warm water to it and you’re ready to go (I know -Domestic Goddess Fail).
When you’ve made the pizza base (whichever option you go for ;-)), roll it out into a shape that resembles a rectangle, this recipe will work better if your rectangle doesn’t have holes in although Master Frugal thought it would be fun to poke a few in ours!
Next, spread your pizza base with a mix of tomato ketchup and tomato puree – unless you’re more technical than me and choose to make a fancy tomato sauce type thing.
Once you’ve covered the whole base with tomato, sprinkle it with cheese making sure that the whole base has a layer on it.
Then roll it up into a swiss roll style sausage and cut into slices about 1.5cm – 2cm wide.
Pop them on a baking tray and let them cook for about 12 minutes at 200 c.
You can tel they’re ready when they’re all golden and bubbly. We let them cool for a few minutes and added sweetcorn eyes and carrot smiles (hence the name pizza smiles lol) and then scoffed the lot!
