Why does the last day of the school holidays go so fast? We’ve had a lovely two weeks but I think the kids are both really looking forward to going back tomorrow.
We always like to do something really fun on the last day of the school holidays but Miss Frugal’s feet are still bad and she wasn’t up to walking anywhere today so we decided to stay home and enjoy the weather in the back garden by having a barbecue.
Now I’m sure we bought a barbecue in the sales at the end of last Summer but I couldn’t find it anywhere today when we were looking for it so we ended up using some of those cheap disposable ones.
Admittedly, the picture doesn’t exactly make it look nice but it was actually really tasty, we had homemade burgers, sausages and garlic and herb chicken escalopes (a la Asda). We also had a nice big salad and some rice with sweetcorn and peas in it. I don’t think Master Frugal enjoyed it as much as we did as he’s just asked me if we can have proper dinner next Sunday and not the kind of dinner you ‘cook on the floor’.
After tea we made a pretend postbox to try and encourage Master Frugal with his reading and writing.
It’s not exactly a work of art or anything but it’s red and it’s got a hole in to post letters through so it’ll do the job 😉
He’s not at the stage yet where he can write words himself but he can copy words that we have written down for him. He asked his daddy to write ‘To Mummy, I love you lots’ and he carefully copied it.
Once we’d all finished writing our letters we posted them and the postman (Mr Frugal) came to empty them out of the postbox and deliver them, only if we asked nicely and said the magic world though lol.
We had loads of fun and it really encouraged him so thank you very much to OrganicAlley on Twitter for suggesting it to me.
