A reset day is a day that you take to basically get your life in order, sort out those niggly problems that have been annoying you and tackle any jobs that you’ve been putting off. In theory, at the end of a reset day, you should feel a lot more in control of life in general and I was in need of a bit of that myself last weekend so Sunday was dedicated to my own reset day.
I’ve not had the best year so far, healthwise but I think I’m on the mend now and have more medical appointments coming up over the next couple of months that should help me get sorted. I’ve been feeling a bit meh lately and I know it’s not only because of my health but also because I’m feeling a bit out of control with things as I’ve got so behind this year in everything as I’ve not had the energy to do what I would usually do.
My partner has done his best but he works pretty hard himself so we’ve had to let some things slide which over time has started to get on top of me so now that I’m on the mend, I’m trying to get things back on track and to catch up with everything that needs doing and to start taking care of myself more.
There’s a lot to do though so I decided a good old reset day was in order to get me started so last Sunday, I spent some time in the garden making a plan to sort all of the things in my life that were on my ‘should have done this at some point’ list and I thought you might be interested in hearing about what I did…
Taking care of me
One thing I’ve really been missing when I’ve not been well is riding my bike – we got into the habit of a bike ride with the kids at least once a week and I’ve really missed our family bike rides over the last few months (I know, who even am I?).
I don’t have the energy to join in the bike rides just yet so I did the next best thing and brought my exercise bike over from my old house so I can now ride a little bit without worrying about getting too far and being too tired to come back. I won’t lie, I can’t do too much but I can do something and that makes me happy.
I ordered light bulbs
I started the day ordering some light bulbs from Amazon which doesn’t sound very life-changing at all, does it?
The light in our living room was quite dull as we bought the wrong one last time we replaced it and I haven’t done anything about it so next job was to order the brightest bulb that our light fitting would take and now I am so much happier as the room is so much brighter now. I also ordered some replacements for the chandelier type light fitting in our dining room as a couple of them had gone off and again, it’s so much brighter in there.
I sorted out my laptop bag
About six months ago, I used a different bag as my laptop bag for work as I needed a bigger bag to take some extra bits in and for some reason, I alternated between the two for months until I was signed off from work. I was using two bags with similar stuff in each one just moved a few bits each time I had to go in so I have what I need. I’ve no idea why it took me so long to sort this but I’m now back to one laptop bag with the spares I have for things like my charger neatly tidied away in my desk drawer so when I’m back in the office then I won’t have issues swapping my stuff about.
I bought a power bank and a wireless phone charger stand
My job involves a lot of time on my phone which means I often get to the end of the day with not much charge left on my phone or worse, no charge at all.
To sort this out, I bought a wireless phone charger stand to sit on my desk which my phone will just sit on through the day when I’m at home so that should keep my battery topped up and avoid my usual halfway through a call having to plug my phone in to charge. I also bought a power bank for days when I’m out and which should avoid my phone dying when I’m on the move.
I filled my Kindle with books I can’t wait to read
I filled my Kindle books with 10 new books to read using my Kindle Unlimited subscription and spent half an hour following my favourite authors so I get a notification on my Alexa when any of them release a new book. I knew the names of some and for others, I just looked back at the books I’ve read so far this year and added a few of those authors to my list.
I also bought a new Kindle charger so I don’t have to share a charger with the kids as I lost the one that came with it so was sharing one with the kids who used it for their games consoles.
Found a workaround for a tech issue
For ages now, my photos haven’t been syncing properly with my Macbook and Airdrop doesn’t always work which is so annoying when I want to use a photo of mine in a blog post. It annoys me so much bit I couldn’t fix it no matter what I did which was so frustrating so I decided to think outside the box and find a different option which I managed to do. I just downloaded the WordPress app and can upload media to that which I can then access on the desktop version of WordPress on my Macbook. It’s not the end solution but it’s fixed to the point I can work with and has potentially saved my phone and my Macbook from being thrown out of the window! 😂
I also took some time to write myself a to-do-list for the week, plan our meals, read some of the magazines I’ve had in a pile for ages so I could pass them on to a friend and have a pamper hour which included a bubble bath and painting my toe nails while wearing a silly unicorn face mas,.
I now feel 100% better after my reset day and I couldn’t recommend having your own little reset day enough!
