In our house, something very odd happens when one child isn’t behaving as well as they should be.
Take last night for example, both kids came in from school happy and smiley and went upstairs to change out of their uniform. They were both a bit tired so they sat relaxing with me for a while downstairs while we caught up on our days although Mater Frugal was more interested in when he could get on his Xbox to play FIFA 17 at that point if I’m honest.
Miss Frugal and I had a slight disagreement about something totally random and she had a little mini sulk. As soon as Master Frugal realised that she was indeed sulking, it started!
All thoughts of going to play FIFA went out of the window as he suddenly couldn’t share enough with me about his day telling me in great detail what he’d been up to and who with. He was all over me trying to offer his help with cooking tea and he even went as far as to ask me how I was feeling and if I needed anything. All the while his sister quietly seethed on the settee, her sulk made worse by her perfectly behaved brother. 😉
This sort of behaviour seems to be a regular occurrence in our house and happens at least once a week that I can think of lately..
Last week it happened when Master Frugal was told off because he kept trying to get out of doing his daily jobs. This telling off prompted Miss Frugal to do not only her own daily jobs right away but also had her cleaning the upstairs bathroom as a bonus job.
And the time before that it happened when Miss Frugal and I were discussing her last minute approach to homework, Master Frugal appeared at the dining room table with his pencil case and book bag and proceeded to complete every piece of homework that he had outstanding before smugly asking me to sign his planner.
They do make me laugh because the more one sulks, the more well behaved and smug the other one is which only serves to make the sulk last longer. It’s like a vicious circle except somewhere along the way I benefit from whatever it is the good child is doing to show the other one up!
Is it just my two who behave like this?
