A couple of weeks ago, after a very lovely day out with the kids, we headed to our local Brewers Fayre to have a try of their new Chef’s counter menu. The Chef’s counter menu changes according to what day of the week it is and is basically an all you can eat buffet based around whatever the theme of the day is.
Monday and Thursday are both curry nights, Tuesday is Mexican night, Wednesday is burgers and hot dogs and Friday is chip shop night. We went on a Wednesday as that seemed like the best night for fussy eating Master Frugal and it couldn’t have been better for him.
We were sat on a lovely table overlooking the quayside and the kids and I immediately chose the Chef’s counter meal which was great value at £6.49 for me and £4.49 for the kids. Mr Frugal chose to have fish and chips but ended up with the same as us as they’d ran out of fish.
I loved that we didn’t have to wait for our meal as we just headed up to the Chef’s counter when we were ready. I always hate waiting for meals with the kids, especially when they’re hungry, so this was brilliant for me.
There was a great selection of food for us to choose from – burgers, with and without cheese, chicken breasts, chicken fillets, hot dogs, corn dogs, fries, potatoes, beans and all sorts of buns, sauces and salads to go with the meal.
Here’s our plates….
We did go back a few times after the first time as it was lovely – don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t gourmet food but for that price for an all you can buffet, it was brilliant and excellent value for money.
Mr Frugal was slightly disappointed when his fish and chips turned up towards the end of our meal. Yes, the fish and chips that they said they didn’t have! There must have been a mix up somewhere along the line but they were very apologetic about it and he enjoyed his meal so all was well.
We decided to have a pudding each too….
They all tasted as delicious as they look but we were so full from our mail course that not one of us managed to clear our pudding plates which is the exact reason why we normally don’t get puddings when we go out to eat. 😉
All things considered, I would recommend the new Chef’s counter menu for a great value family meal out.
