As much as I enjoy watching the X Factor (I know you all do secretly), I tend to find that it can take up most of our Saturday night because by the time we’ve watched it, it’s bedtime for the kids and usually too late for us to watch a film or anything as Mr Frugal is usually up early for work on Sunday.
So this year, we’re not going to watch X Factor or Strictly (or if we do we’re going to Sky Plus it and watch it through the week together) and we’re not even going to have a Saturday night movie night with popcorn like we usually do when X Factor isn’t on. We’re going to do something different every week that doesn’t involve the TV in any way, shape or form!
We’re going to reclaim our Saturday Family nights.
To me it doesn’t matter what we do as long as we’re not all sat there staring at the TV but I’ve asked the kids what they want to do instead of X Factor and this is what they’ve come up with:
COOK AND EAT A 3 COURSE MEAL TOGETHER – EACH COURSE MADE BY SOMEONE DIFFERENT
HAVE A GAME NIGHT – BOARD GAMES, PLAYING CARDS AND PLAYING TOGETHER ON MARIO KART WII
GO FOR A WALK IN THE DARK TO THE SHOPS FOR ICE LOLLIES AND THEN COME BACK AND DRINK HOT CHOCOLATE
HAVE A KARAOKE NIGHT NOW THAT WE HAVE OUR KARAOKE MACHINE
SNUGGLE UNDER BLANKETS WITH THE TV OFF AND DO NOTHING BUT TALK TO EACH OTHER
There’s some quite random ideas there isn’t there?
I should have know they wouldn’t come up with simple things but anyway, we’ll do these over the next five weeks and I’ll come back and let you know if we have more fun than we would if we were watching X Factor 😉
